Hey,
I've just started getting into the Prog genre, and would like to learn more about it, and expand my musical tastes as well.
My name's Martin. I'm 17. The bands that I currently listen to
(prog wise), are Dream Theater, Evergrey, Queensryche, Symhpony X, Tool and Opeth.
I know it's not alot, so any suggestions on other good prog bands will
be appreciated
Cheers!

Hey,
I'm Kayla, I'm 17, I live in the U.S., and I'm pretty new in this forum too. Sounds to me like you're off to a pretty good start, but ( in my opinion) you're missing three big ones: Genesis, Yes, and Rush. These are 3 of my favorites. Give those a listen and let me know what you think.
P.S. Personally, I like the earlier albums best from all of these bands.

Hi Charismalover
welcome to this crazy forum!
I suggest you Jethro Tull and Camel (1973-76)! They are great!

Thanks, will do! I've just got Fates Warning and Pagan's Mind. Still to
listen to them....hopefully I won't be disappointed. Thanks for the
recommendations! They're appreciated, and i'll be trying out some
Genesis and Rush when I get some more money.
Cheers

Stopped by in this section to throw around the odd hello ... hi Martin ... I'm a Martin too ... just about double your age though ...
See you around ... I'm more a classic progger than a prog-metaller ... notice you didn't mention The Mars Volta though ... they're my favourite band of this decade so far ...

Hello Martin, hello Kayla!
Now them, recommendations. Martin, if you can handle extreme bizarreness:
- Mr Bungle
- Fantomas
- Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
- The Mars Volta
Kayla, some classic bands you might be missing out on:
- Gentle Giant
- Jethro Tull
- Van Der Graaf Generator
- Premiata Forneria Marconia (a.k.a. PFM)
- Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso
- Caravan
If either of you want any help with knowing what to get from any of
these bands, just send me a PM, I'd be delighted to help further.

Essential "normal" prog metal: Psychotic Waltz and Fates Warning (both from the 80s). Voivod and Watchtower are also well worth checking out, maybe before the extreme weirdness TP suggests, I think SGM is dropping in at the deep end a bit
