You can pick as many bands as you want. My picks: Helloween, Kamelot, Stratovarius, Symphony X and Angra.

when the term "power metal" did not exist. Helloween had been there already :)

Nice pick, Savatage would be my choice against any Euro power metal band. But what people need to know there is a difference between Euro-power metal, as most bands in the poll are, except for Iced Earth, Symphony X and Angra and US Power Metal. US Power is heavier and I dare say more competent than Euro PM, darker lyrical themes, sometimes more realistic (for the lack of a better word). US Power with bands like Helstar, early Fates Warning, Jag Panzer, Vicious Rumors, Crimson Glory, Sanctuary, QR, even Manowar (which I can't stand these days - lol), Savatage (which starting with 1987 Hall of the Mountain King became prog-ish and continued with Streets and Gutter Ballet which are IMO progressive metal albums). Even Nevermore fits in here. Edited by Cristi - August 16 2018 at 00:47 |

Gave it to Symphony X.
The past 6 years I've binged on Japanese female fronted power metal bands (more aesthetically pleasing than the male counterparts concerning Japan for me). I can list at least ten I really enjoy and play regularly: Mary's Blood - My fav. All-girl band with tremendous guitar playing and strong womanly vocals Light Bringer - Incredibly talented band, sadly in indefinite hiatus Tears of Tragedy - Beautiful smooth vocals, lots of fast songs as well Octaviagrace - More skillful than most progressive metal acts. The female guitarist is "wow" Lovebites - Relatively new all-girl band. Quite heavy and fast at times Cross Vein - Flower power with a strong goth metal influence Aldious - The all-girl band that started the current J-female metal wave Show-Ya - All-girl band that started in the early 80's. Classic. Liv Moon - Almost more symphonic than power but they can cut loose. Superb operatic vocals Bridear - Another all-girl act. Love their drummer, she can rip. |
