Best Rush period...?

From Rush to 2112. Geddy vocals were so good at that period, IMO, when he began ''singing'', his voice lost some power. Although the 90's period was vastly underrated... Counterparts was great,,,

actually I would rate that as the best series of albums any band has ever produced and even more commendable that they did it at a time when most prog bands turned to sh*t.

the best periods of Rush are those between their albums 

Not enough crackers in the free world to scoop up all the cheese from
that Thornhill garage band.

They are not a proggers band... they are a gearhead band.

Best Rush period for me starts to the very underrated "Caress of Steel" and ends up with "Moving Pictures" ...

I however like also their 80's and 90's albums (their best album from this period  being by far "Counterparts"), especially when I feel like listening to some somewhat simpler music approach ... By the way mates could you continuously listening only to very complex prog music ? For me, I need to alternate complex and simpler music ...  

I loved Rush from Fly By Night up to Permanent Waves. I thought Moving Pictures was a bit clinical and lacking in emotion, then I lost track of them. I've only recently got hold of their later stuff, and while there are some great songs there (e.g. Subdivisions and Analog Kid), it hasn't really gripped me as much as the earlier stuff. Bands have to change and progress and they're still hugely popular.

Caress of Steel (this album is so underated IMO), 2112, Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres.

That was IMO their progressive era. Others album are more near to rock than prog.

Their best period is 1974 - and counting!!!

Rush has evolved from time to time. Their music has inspired many bands and their work is still just AMAZING without loosing their spirit.

Although they started more as a blues-rock band with influences from Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Who, etc., their sound reshaped and got more progressive with master pieces like 2112, Hemispheres and Moving Pictures (for some people, but in my case I would said every album is a MASTER PIECE and a real JEWEL).

People might think in a wrong way that their music is nowdays (90's) more rock oriented than prog, but in fact prog doesn't define a band only with the use of synths or keyboards, long compositions that run over 20 minutes long or convey the so-called "science fiction" type of narratives and concept albums. Progressive rock is also defined by the use of time signatures, scales, tunings, etc., and solo passages for every instrument, and that's what defines the sound of Rush in our days.

I have been listining to Rush since 1989 (the first time I was introduced to their music with Presto). I got to listen to their Chronicles album, which in my opinon resumes the biography of the band in such a great way with awesome tunes from 3 eras. From that moment, I begun to collect each album (including the remasters), from Rush to Feedback. 

Now, I just can't barely wait until November 15th when their next live DVD from their 30th anniversary tour will be out in stores to kick ass one more time, and look forward to 2006 with the release of their 18th studio proyect.

If you think their music is boring or even awful, you know nothing about them and not even know to appreciate great music... My advise is go back to your living room and listen to your New Kids On The Block tapes or play with your dolls...

80's! (seriously)

I particularly enjoy the period between 1974 and right now.
