A composer with one foot in jazz, one foot in contemporary classical and (somewhat improbably) a third foot in rock/pop. Quite lyrically dense, with lots of wordplay, satire and whimsy, and musically complex without ever really coming across as abrasive or discordant for the sake of it.

It would probably have an easier ride through this site's mechanisms if it goes to the RIO/Avant-Prog team but I think in many ways his music is more closely analogous to Canterbury - in particular the likes of Robert Wyatt, John Greaves and Egg (plus shades of Hatfield/National Health due to heavy use of female vocal harmonies).

Just check out the first couple of tracks on Expeditionary Twitch and you'll hopefully see what I mean: https://johnelmquistshardartgroop.bandcamp.com/album/expeditionary-twitch
