It is announced that a distinguished trumpet player/composer and collaborator of such names like Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, David Sylvian, Holger Czukay... JON HASSEL will perform with his quartet on 4th November 2005 at 9th Sarajevo Jazz Festival. A rare opportunity for prog and jazz lovers in the region to see the legend.

Nu Fusion a term the enlightened jazz critics have been using for a decade. Norwegians Nils Petter Molvaer (check out Solid Ether, Khymer, NP3, and the Live album) and Bugge Wesseltoft's New Conception Of Jazz (Sharing, In There Out Here, and especially Live), have separately been the stars of  this music which is the new generation of jazz fusion: i.e. jazz with dance, sampling, drum'n'bass, scratching and maybe trip hop. Very big in London, Oslo, (these two capitals, with the Norwegian versions),  Paris (with the French variant with examples of bands such as Largo, No-Jazz), parts of Austria (eg. Martin Koeller). Both the Norwegian and French proponents, reference Jon Hassell (check out some of the mid 90's albums by Hassell with Bluescreen) and even Miles Davis during his  later period as god fathers of this sub genre. Anglo-Norwegian band Food  have been associated with nu.fusion, except with them there has been  little dance much free jazz playing, making such associations unsafe. Esbjorn Svensson Trio (EST) one of the best selling jazz groups in Europe in the last 5 years are known as Nu.Jazz players, i.e. modifying the more traditional jazz playing with for instance real time drum and bass. Close as you will get to nu.jazz in the USA is Brad Mehldau (new album Day Is Done of Beatles, Radiohead and Nick Drake covers is superb, and I particularly liked the 9 minute interpretation of Paranoid Android on his previous studio album) and Bad Self.

Also check the rhythm section of Wayne Krantz's  jazz rock fusion band, when they play real time drum and bass with jazz, as Boomish (e.g. Clearance Sale has Wayne Krantz and Bill Frisell on board)

^Thanks a lot! I only heard about Esbjorn Svensson Trio - they also performed at Sarajevo Jazzfest few years ago but I missed opportunity to see them...
