I'm referring to The Early Years compilation albums project ending with /ation. I only have one (Devi/ation) concentrating on Atom Heart Mother and Zabriskie Point. I'm always very careful with albums like that since a lot of them tend to contain inferior material just for the sake of releasing the album. This is not the case with Devi/ation, although I played it very few times it sounds like a very good album which I'll elaborate about it later, but for now share you're thoughts about the albums you have in this series.

I got them, one by one, about a year after their initial release, once their prices dropped (and were available separatley). I did enjoy them quiet a bit. There's a good amount of stuff that I liked a lot, many audio songs I didn't have before, or at least not oficially, and now I can enjoy along the rest of their discography, many live versions that are much better than the original studio ones, and many video footage that's really good to be able to see. Yet, I rather dislike the way they have gone around things, like just doing it in a way to be able to make their sets more expensive because of the huge amount of material and discs they are offering, while a good deal of it is interviews or commercials, or whatever, that one won't really want to re-visit. I feel they could just as well have released a few albums... perhaps two "lost" albums with songs that were never released in a studio album, one for the Barrett era, and another for the post-Barrett era, and a few live albums, and perhaps one or two concert video compilations. And this is even more true of the new Later Years box set, from which I definitley want the new Delicate Sound of Thunder live album with more songs, as well as the Venice video concert (and I think they have another concert of video too, from the same tour, and they could easily have been put in a single release). I mean, physical format is already in trouble as it is, and then they put prices to such releases that are very difficult to afford, how can we support the physical format in such conditions?

I have them all, aside from the 1968 one, and they are all excellent. There are some odd choices here and there (such as one whole disc being Obscured By Clouds in a collection that is all unreleased material but...) but I wouldn't want to be without any of the discs. I will probably get 1968 at some point, but all things considered its easy the least interesting to me.

1969 is probably my favorite.
