Jimi V.S. Jimmy

I hope this hasn´t been done before. I looked for it and nothing came out.

Well, this two guys don´t need no presentation.

Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page?

what would you guys say...



I vote HENDRIX!!!!
he expands his possibilities far more than Page does. Page is more commited to a specific style, and that is his limitation.

When I discuss this with my friends, they always say that Hendrix didn´t compose something as good as "the song remains the same", "dazed n confused" or "Achilles' last stand". But I think Hendrix is way more spiritual and deep.

And of course, as Nipsey88 said: "He literally single-handedly invented electric guitar, nuff said."

This is a question I've been pondering for years.  I like them both equally, but I think Jimi Hendrix is the most accomplished guitar player of the two

What's the purpose of this comparison.
Shall we also try Hackett versus Barre, Gabriel vs Anderson (Ian or John), Collins vs Bruford etc.?

They were both extremely talented guitarist (I am a long time fan of both of them - since 1970 when I was 11).
The lmajor differnece between them would reside in their carreer while living.
Still going on for Jimmy, sadly over for Jimi.

Hendrix without a doubt- he has to be the most influential guitarist, alongside Eric Clapton, in the whole of rock. Nobody ever sounded like the way Hendrix played the guitar before, with deliriously soulful yet complex solos and riffing. His style of playing arguably gave birth to the whole 'heavy rock/metal' genre, as rock was an altogether more tame beast before Hendrix appeared.

What's especially sad is that you can tell he had so much more to give, musically- the 'First Rays Of The Rising Sun' recordings are truly fantastic and opened up a whole new vista of musical possibilities...

For me, Page is a superb guitarist who is one of the few in heavy rock that can tone it down to folky, acoustic work (it would arguably be disastrous with Deep Purple or Black Sabbath) yet still play incredibly heavy riffing and meaty solos. However, I've heard some pretty scrappy guitar solos from Page, especially live, as Led Zeppelin's tendency to make perfect, succinct heavy rock classics into 30 minute bombastic extravaganzas for the live arena just didn't work, for me, and was more to blame for the emergence of punk than prog was, in my opinion!

Yet, it goes without saying both are superb players, whatever anyone says here...

what about Jimmy Bruno...i think he would win...

Between these two cats, I dont know.  I think Jimi is a better improvisor, and far more creative.  Stylisticly speaking Jimmy is pretty B.A. sounding.  Not that I think he plays great or anything, I just think that he writes cool sounding guitar parts, and he has a good approach to playing.

However, Page has his moments of originality. One good British jazz critic reviewing the Led Zeppelin double DVD, about two years ago commented that John McLaughlin must have been in the audience taking notes for Live At The RAH 1970, because Page's long solo had a number of riffs and methods of attack of the guitar, heard 18 months later with Mahavishnu  Orchestra.....

Then with plaguarism - said it too many times but - the borrowing from Bert Jansch's folk/blues acoustic style of playing.

In passing, the first jazz musician to use an electric guitar was Charlie Christian, right at the beginning of the 40's. It should not be forgotten that some of the basics would have been laid down then.
