Too late for traditional prog and too early for neo prog so it fell down the cracks. 1981 was all synth pop/art pop excepting the mighty Eloy, King Crimson and Rush and a few mavericks such as Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush. If you liked rock it had to be AC/DC or NWOBHM or the AOR/Soft Rock coming from America. Dark days.

I can't find anything from Ground Zero, if I'm not mistaken Nick May the guitarist joined the Enid afterwards and Jadis. Probably similar to Protos who didn't release another album until recently, the lack of success to any extent probably just led to a breakup. I wonder if Ground Zero was a live act they did.

"Some copies have a sticker stating "Now Ground Zero" due to the band undergoing a subsequent name change"

Album reissued by the band leader in 1989 (self-production)

interesting for you perhaps ?

Protos labelmates Gemini released their only album Counter Balance in 1981. The album is an instrumental consisting of only four tracks preformed by the trio of Jon Wren(percussion), Nick Wren(keyboards), and Nick May(guitars and basses). It's a very interesting listen and I enjoyed it quite a lot, similar to ELP but I find the arrangements unique in their own way. Strangely I see the group has only been mentioned a few times on PA and I wonder why, they are undoubtedly a prog group and are responsible for a prog gem in a dark time for prog.

Has anyone else ever heard of them and does anyone know why they aren't on PA? (I personally think it's due to the relative lack of awareness that they even exist but I could be wrong)
