Bio:
Gwendal is a French band of Celtic and Breton music formed in 1972 through the initiative of Youenn le Berre, a flutist and saxophonist. Their debut album, "Irish Jig," was released in 1974, unveiling the influences that would characterize the group.
In their early albums, the band skillfully blends elements of traditional Irish music with hints of rock and jazz. With their fourth record, "4," the band delves even further into the realms of rock and jazz fusion, showcasing their ability to evolve and adapt.
The musical diversity and innovative influence of Gwendal continue to resonate in the Celtic and Breton music scene.

They were suggested for inclusion in Prog-Folk back in August 2017, but there was no response to the suggestion: https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=111631.

They seem to switch back and forth between the folk and more jazzy elements of their music quite a bit, so aren't going to be an easy act to pigeonhole. They're classed as 'World-New Age Styles (Prog) (Prog Related)' on Proggnosis. I'll be very surprised if they get approved here for Jazz Rock/Fusion to be honest.

Yes, it's a band quite difficult to pigeonhole into a single genre, which is why I believe Jazz Rock/Fusion is the most fitting. I also considered Prog Related, although even today that category still seems a bit confusing to me.

Please keep in mind though that the Jazz Rock/Fusion team is among the most overburdened genre teams on our site, so it may took a while for us to properly process your suggestion.

I'm much more comfortable with Gwendal in Profg Folk rather than in JR/F, despite the latter showing its head in the longer tracks 


Sooo, most likely the PF team will take over, but we're still waiting for Gordy's verdict.

I think folk is close enough but would it be worth checking with eclectic, given the frequent jazzy forays?
