I voted Rudess because he's in the poll, but to vote for an actual Moog player, I would vote for Mr. Keith Emerson.

^You're putting words in my mouth. The poll is only referring to this poll. I wonder how good Rudess is at drums...

Rick Wakeman is the best keybaordist in music, period. With Keith Emerson coming in a close second.

My vote on this poll is Wakeman but if I could vote for a super-duper underrated moog player it would be Kalman Matolcsy. He even made his own moogs and is barely known. You can hear him at this site. http://www.sdss.jhu.edu/~szalay/music/pantarhei.html

Best of 2006 that I've heard:
PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album) Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific 2007: Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo |

Why is Jordan Rudess on this poll? He didn't even use Moogs until
Octavarium, and even then he used them very minimally. I love the stuff
he's done with them, but there's so little of it that it seems strange
to include him as an option.

Bob Moog might have invented the instrument, but Emerson invented how to play it, if that makes sense.

But the question was who is the best Moog player not "keyboardist". Though Wakeman has excellent technique his range of synthesiser tone colours is very limited. I think Emerson's early work (e.g. synth patches on 'Pictures' or ascerbic over-modulation on 'Fanfare' solo) put him leagues ahead in the use of Moog stakes. I think Moraz should definitely be included for his superb Moog work on 'Relayer', 'Refugee' and 'The Story of I' - a unique sonic palette here.

I'll go with Emerson, then Bardens (definitely no lightweight!) and
Wakeman. Where's Kit Watkins, though?!? |
