Does anyone remember the Sensational Alex Harvey Band?

From 1972 to 1977,  they did some really cool hard rockin' sort of art rock type stuff with a certain degree of theater.

Glad to see somebody else remembers them! The Impossible Dream, Sgt. Fury, Boston Tea Party (which Fish did a dandy cover of it on Songs from the Mirror), Vambo! all classics.

Zal Clemenson (guitarist with the cool clown makeup) later joined Nazareth.

Ted McKenna played drums for
Rory Gallagher Band, 1976-78,The Greg Lake Band, 1981 and the Michael Schenker Group, 1982.

Bassist Chris Glen was a member of the
Michael Schenker Group in 1982 as well.

Well, since I'm only 18, I don't remember them, but thanks to Horza, I've really taken an interest in them.

I have these albums so far:

Tomorrow Belongs to Me
The Penthouse Tapes
The Impossible Dream

Favorite Songs: Boston Tea Part, The Hot City Symphony Parts 1 and 2, Tomorrow Belongs to Me

All good stuff.

Like Merglys III, I'm young (17) so I don't 'remember' them, nonetheless they were a great band.

I don't think personally, at least from the two albums I currently have ('Tomorrow...' and 'Impossible...') and one I used to ('SAHB Stories'), their albums are terribly cohesive, yet some songs are brilliant, particularly 'Give My Compliments To The Chef', 'Faith Healer' and 'Vambo', to these ears. However, their 'Live' album from about '75 is brilliant, and their Old Grey Whistle Test stints are the best I've seen from that show.

I saw them live once, at Parkhead stadium in Glasgow around 1976 I think. The Who were top of the bill, other support acts included The Outlaws, Little Feat, Streetwalkers (Roger Chapman) and Widowmaker if memory serves me well (which it probably doesn'tEmbarrassed).

It was effectively a home gig for Harvey, who almost upstaged the Who.

Full marks Easy Livin'- I have an article on this gig in an old issue of Classic Rock and all these bands are mentioned in there!

Apparently, The Streetwalkers were bottled off, and Alex Harvey said 'remember boys and girls, if anyone comes to your door offering fascism, send them to me and I'll kick the s*** out of them!' Sounds like a great gig!
