Topic: Portishhead Posted: December 17 2005 at 07:02 |
Im not really sure if they really are "Prog" but I've heard people refer to them as Progressive
has anyone heard them? or OF them? My ex-girlfriend showed me one of their Live performances, one of the most pretentious bullcrap bands I've ever heard. The music is anything but inspiring, and the women that does the lyrics has no vocal variety. GOD she anoys me, that same tone of voice just gets anoying after a while (I heard more then 1 song... way more then 1 song)
The only props I give to the singer, is that she does a good job keeping her voice clear, for smokeing while performing. What an idiot. ruining her perfectly good singing voice... slowly. I hate seeing singers smoking cigarettes (or worse... cigars)
btw... WHO LOVES TOOL?!

Yes I know...I read your post, but as they are not in Prog Archives, it should be in "Non-Prog Music" or maybe "recommendations"

Snow Dog is maybe right, I don't know, but I'll reply right here. I heard something of them... I didn't find any prog there, but, certainly, there's a sort on melancholy hidden in their songs. In my opinion the singer's got an interesting voice. Even if it's difficult to say what's prog and what is not, I couldn't say that Portishead's a prog band. More than this: I'm sure they wouldn't like such an inclusion.
Bye.

Portishead aren't prog, not rock anyhow. They are, however, the best portishead-type band ever.

I think they are certainly "progressive" in their approach to writing and performing, not sure they'd fit in here though. You never know...stranger things have happened!!

Definitely not prog, but a fine band nonetheless. Trip hop seems to be quite popular on here, which seems reasonable enough to me.

While I don't think that they qualify as prog, there might be some Trip Hop bands who qualify as progressive.
Having said that: Listen to Morcheeba - The Antidote ... definitely progressive!

Portishead were a fine band. I prefered Massive Attack, though. I liked all of their albums apart from 100th Window.

Yeah I ike them as well, you'll here tracks like Mysterons, Sour Times and Glory Box used in movies and on TV quite often, atmosphereic music.
Does anyone know if the same people are behind Goldfrapp? I think there is some connection but could be wrong.

I dont think there is a connection, but then I may be wrong too ... Goldfrap are a song writing duo and 50% of that duo is Alison Goldfrap, and she was certainly nothing to do with Portishead. The bloke may be though, I cant remember his name right now.

Definitely not prog, but an interesting band and very cutting-edge for their time. When I heard their first album, it struck me as being the sort of LP JANIS JOPLIN would have made had she been born 15 years later (though there's no real musical comparison).

Excellent band. I love the film noire atmosphere they create in some songs

Loved Dummy and the live album , but I thought P with its heavy James Bond soundtracks sampling was less interesting
