Why isn't this in Prog Polls???

Anywho, I vote for Dave Stewart as well, although Mike Ratledge is a very close second.

One should not forget Alan Gowen (who used to play with Gilgamesh, Soft Head and Soft Heap and also with Hatfield and the North. Gilgamesh and Hatfield and the North used to give 8-piece gigs for a while, with 2 keyboarders, 2 guitar players, 2 drummers and 2 bassists). My vote goes to him. He died of leucemia; National Health did an album in his memory, with compositions only by him, "D.S. al Coda".

Nice topic Andrew!

Well i cant come to a proper decision cos there are so many talented and unique keyboardists in the Canterbury scene it would be impossible to choose. So i voted for good old Moonweed cos he looked damn cool!

     Yes, Stewart was all around one of the most important
figures in Canterbury, but IMHO Gowen was also extremely
influential, if much less famous. I think the last great album of
the Canterbury school was "Befora a Word is Said" (1981), the
last album Alan made before departing, with Phil Miller,
Richard Sinclaire and Trevor Tomkins. Hard to find, but I did on
amazon
Deutschland.

Dave MacRae-Matching Mole-He made his keyboard sound what Hendrix would of made it sound like,had Hendrix played keyboards

Mike Ratledge-Good in the beginning,but sucked towards the end. He did an outstanding job on Syd Barretts "Clowns And Jugglers" and "No Good Trying".

McRae, Sinclair, Gowan and Ratledge had short
interesting moments, but Dave was semi-genius!
