Much time is spent on the "classic" prog bands, and rightfully so. Yet, there are many incredible progressive musicians out there that are establishing and preforming to their own sets of rules, who are largely unknown. Many of these bands can be real jewels to add to your collection, once you know about them.
In fact, many of the great prog bands started out way "underground", as you probably know. What bands do you know that are little known, but worth knowing about? The more obscure and unknown they are, the better. We're talking starving artists here. Try to give a link or method to hear or obtain their material, where possible. An example would be the band Variant. They only have one CD, which is called Beyond Jargon. You can hear samples of it and learn more about them at: www.cdbaby.com/cd/variant What other undergroung jewels are hiding out there? |

Guess I'll throw another one out there. Check out Canvas Solaris. Very intense, complex, tight material. They use a lot of "stack tracks", but the musicianship is stellar. Nice change of pace and very original.
