proto-prog at first

soon or later in the Archives

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

I have their first 4 albums, and my favourite is the second: "The Family That Plays Together".

I'd say Proto-Prog.

Yeah I'd say that they are an essential part of the 'proto prog' section. They sit alongside The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Incredible String Band and Love as being the most vital acts not included for setting the parameters of prog.

The piece "Elijah" on the first album evokes what Canterbury will do years after.

Far more prog than many pseudo prog bands here anyway!

Yes, IMO, the most obviously proto-prog of all the 60s bands that come up regularly for discussion (and are not already on the site!) ...
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."
