Topic: Heavy Metal band in Eurovision Posted: April 21 2006 at 08:08 |
Finland have picked a metal band as their entry for this year's Eurovision. Should be interesting.

If the Eurovision Song Contest was about who has the silliest contestant, Finland would have won many times and would certainly win this year.

No ... being silly just seems to be a requirement for the contestants.

I think there was a Scottish heavy metal/rock (ish) band many years ago called Heavy Pettin (I had one- wasn't too distinguished but was OK) that once entered Eurovision with a song called 'Romeo'. It failed miserably (they never even got past the selection stages for the UK entry) and they lost their fanbase who thought they'd gone soft, though they were never that heavy to me anyway...
I think I heard this once- a horribly twee effort it was too..
I usually watch Eurovision for a good laugh, mind. There can't be many out there now that still take it seriously- a look at how the votes go should be enough.

Believe it or not, but Nightwish actually participated in the Finnish qualification for the Eurovision
song contest some years ago, but they didn't make it to the finals.

Lordi isn't heavy metal though. "Hard" rock with "monster" vocals.
