I've very surprised nothing (well I can't find anything) has been said in PA, about Pete Townshend's follow up to Tommy, The Lifehouse Project. While it evolved away from being a rock opera -  The Lifehouse was originally intended as such - Who's Next and several subsequent Who albums contained the music. However,The Lifehouse did become a theatrical play with musical accompaniment, being shown on stage in London in the early 70's by the Young Vic Group. Townshend finally pulled all together in the late 90's, with BBC Radio 3 doing the play with Townshend's acoustic guitar accompaniment. In 2001 or 2002, Townshend issued on his own label (via the PeteTownshend website), a 6 CD set of an album called The Lifehouse Project, which includes 2 CDs of BBC Radio 3 recording, 2CDs of the demos for the (not to be) rock opera, 1 CD of a late 90's live recording with several of the original Who classics having undergone considerable and pleasurable rearrangement, and a CD of baroque versions of Townshend's compositions with a chamber orchestra,  plus some Scarletti and Vivaldi compositions - apparently Townshend's inspiration........... Anybody else forked out to have this excellent project??

IMO, this project was an "utopic project". He planned to have The Who playing for hours, and maybe days, in the Young Vic Theatre. They played some hours there, and some of these recordings appeared in the De-luxe version of "Who`s Next", which has 2 CDs.

"Who`s Next" has some songs from that project. I think that Townshend didn`t have clear ideas to develop "The Lifehouse" project properly in 1971.
