I guess that Rush are Art Rock, certainly from about 'Moving Pictures' onwards, although I'm sure the term hadn't been formed back then!

I would just like to say that I think 'Counterparts' is a great album... significantly better than 'Presto' anyway.

Art Rock then to Pseudo-Prog, then to Pop/Rock

King Crimson were (and still are) much more heavier and progressive than Rush.

Well if you call that cacophony of noise, music maybe so. On the other hand if you want  actual tunes then Rush are heavier (but not neccesarily prog)

I AM A BIG FAN OF KING AND I BELIVE THAT THEY WERE THE FIRST PROG ROCK BAND BUT HEY MAN RUSH WAS THE BAND WHICH BROUGHT HEAVY METAL RIFS TO PROG. NO MATER HOW HARD CK OR YES PLAYED RUSH WERE THE FIRST TO USE METAL STUCTURES WITH PROG THEMES.

AND AS FOR THE PROG, IF NATURAL SCIENCE, CYGNUS I AND II, 2112, YYZ AND MANY MORE OF THEIR SONG DONīT HAVE PROG STRUCTURES THEN I MUST HAVE LISTENED THEM WHEN I WAS DRUNK.

But I'm glad they're in the archives - EVERYONE should hear Rush.

Maybe I've had one too many "happy ciggies" tonitgh...

If Rush aren't prog after recording The Fountain of Lamneth, Xanadu, Hemispheres etc, then I don't know who is. They may have veered away from it in later years, but they still qualify with ease, certainly a lot more than Queen!
