Topic: Wasp Posted: July 28 2006 at 14:26 |
When I was a young lad I had all their albums up until "Electric Circus" and then I lost interest.
BUT
Recently I´ve heard a song called "The misconception of me" which is either off Crimson Idol (a concept album) or another concept album(Neon God I think) that was released around the same time. It really sounds quite impressive.
Maybe they are getting better with age?
Has anyone heard any of their latest output?

'Crimson Idol' is a fantastic album from 1992, I think- a surprisingly mature, ambitious and hugely listenable album from one of the tackiest 80s metal acts of all. That song is called 'The Great Misconceptions Of Me', which is a very grand finale. The Who influence is a little strong at times, but it's still an excellent album. The ballad 'Hold On To My Heart' is one of the best songs- it's warmth will shock you after their horrors like 'Animal'.
Some prefer 'Headless Children', the previous concept album. That's a good one too, but 'Crimson Idol' is the best.

Thanks Salmacis! I was seriously wondering if anyone would reply to this thread, most Progheads probably rolled their eyes when the saw a Wasp thread!
I´ve always liked Blackie´s voice after hearing "Forever Free" on Headless Children, very powerful yet emotional at the same time.
I think I will buy The Crimson Idol.

I remember when Wasp first toured the UK - we'd all heard "that" single, so were highly amused to see spotty 12 year old kids wearing tour shirts which boldly stated across the shoulders "I F+++ Like A Beast"... how their parents must have laughed.

I didn't actually roll my eyes, because I knew they'd done at least one concept album. However, I only know them for their first records, including the notorious single (which was actually quite fun, in a skewed sort of way), and of course for Blackie's habit of wearing a chanisaw codpiece...

I haven't heard any of their latest stuff but I did like them in the eighties. They must have been a bit of an influence for Lordi.

Only to the extent that as soon as most people saw them, their first thought was "Oh Lordy, Lordy..."

Actually Blackie Lawless comes across as a pretty intelligent guy (in interviews) as does Marilyn Manson.

Very funny and very true!
I saw them 1985 when they toured with Metallica (Ride The Lightning) and Armoured Saint (March of The Saints).
Too funny! this thread brings back some fond memories!
Can't say that I'm familiar with any of their recent material, but as Blackie once said:
I wanna be somebody, Be somebody soon I wanna be somebody Be somebody too....
