Perhaps you misunderstood me. I didn't say that it actually makes the music better, but that a particular song can seem to be much better if it's splendidly produced.

What? This makes absolutely no sense.

I voted for metal, I feel it's got more potential. Still rock can be utterly amazing on its own.

The reason that the production of Metal is better (in some peoples opinions) might be that the greatest Rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy etc. etc. were at their peak in the '70s. The technology has evolved very much since then, so albums can get a better, clearer sound nowadays.

Personally, I have no opinion on the subject as I don't listen to much Metal.

Yes that's true.  The technology has increased, but there were still very well produced albums coming out of those time periods.  ELP's albums were very well produced, and somewhat later Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Helloween had very well produced albums.

However, there is no way anyone could argue Yes or Genesis had production anywhere near the level of Dream Theater or Pain of Salvation.  That's part of the reason I like the bands more, they just sound better when I listen to them.
