I found this web site a few weeks ago.  I must say it is the best web site on progressive rock on the internet.  I did not know that there are people out there still listening to prog rock, or that prog rock it still popular in the 90's and 2000.   The web site has introduce me to some prog groups that I have never heard of before like, IQ, Palla, Dream Theatro, Tangent, etc.

I have been a progressive rock listener for over 25 year.  My first album was ELP "Works" .  ELP's "Brain Salad Surgery" is probably my favorite prog album.   I also like Yes, seen them live about 6 times.

I still prefer the 70's progressive rock stuff the best, but trying to listen to some of the newer stuff.   The only problem is that, some of the CD are very hard to find.  Most of the progresive rock CD are not available at the local record stores.  Where do you people buy this stuff?

Welcome Heman! Great to have another Prog fan join the forums! Good taste you have, ELP's Brain Salad Surgery is a great album. You're right when you say some of this stuff is difficult to find. I know one can find some of it on online shops such as Amazon.com. I've bought several books/films/cds from Amazon in the past and I've found them to be very good.

Yes, I looked at Amazon, but the import price on many CD is outragious.  I bought some Pendragon and Flower King CD's from eBay.  Some are from the UK, but the U.S dollar against the Euro is really pathetic now.

Yeah import prices are a scandal. Just look at their prices for Magma cds! Some of them exceed $50US. Simply bizarre. Next time I'm in Paris I'll look for Magma stuff . There may be a way to directly order cds from artists. I know ELP have their own site where there may be a link to purchase albums. As for the more unknown modern acts, well I really don't know.

Try the US based amazon. You won't have to pay the crazy shipping charges. Buy them used. Many times you can pick them up at 8 to 9 dollars/cd. They still will be in good shape..I assure you.

If they're still fairly expensive...over $20 dollars,  look elsewhere. They're out there if you search hard enough.

If you go to the artists page here most if not all bands have a home page.  They should tell you the best way to order their stuff.  Here is one you can try.  Since your from the United States and got into prog in 70's check out Proto-Kaw. Go to the link here on Prog Archives then follow the link to their home page:

Luck at odd cd/musicstores sometimes gets you good albums, I once stumbled over a pile of cd's in a store and the one that came up on top had me hooked for months. (shadowland "Ring of Roses")

The prizes in regular (pop)music stores are insane, but Amazon, Ebuy and local "specialists" stores, can provide good music at reasonable prices (my experience anyway).

Anyway Welcome to the site, and I hope you can offer some good input to the site, cause I really welcome any information about any band, since I'm relatively new to prog myself (15 years, off which the most have been wasted due to lack of information on good bands).

There are two places from which I have obtained the majority of my newer prog collection.  One is a company out of Italy, called Kalifonia.  Not only do they have an extensive catalogue of prog, they are the "home" label of Deus ex Machina, one of the greatest neo-prog groups of all.

The other is a bricks and mortar (with a website) store in NYC called Downtown Gallery.  They are on Bowery and 3rd Street.  I have gotten some pretty obscure (i.e., out of print, etc.) stuff from them, from Anglagard to VDGG, from Alusa Fallax to PFM.

Peace.

You should check out www.cdbaby.com . A great little company that has quite a few rare albums. Another remarkable thing about them, is that they give you an album for free in your second order, based on your previous choices.

Maani:

I'm quite interested about getting several albums I've had trouble finding. Are there any web sites you can provide us with?

well, I am newbie myself in the forum, but not in the page, wich has opening to me a broad range of groups that I never hear nothing before. I'm and old fan of prog, from early 70's, but lately i was inmerse in other tendencies like the classic hard rock of 60-70. Until I find the page, from that moment I undust my vinil records and start to remember my youth... My apologies for my poor english, I'm from Venezuela.
