I'm a huge Monty Python fan from way, way back. I remember seeing both Holy Grail and Brian in the theaters and I laughed more at the Holy Grail. It might be that the uproar with the Catholic church over The Life of Brian tempered the comedy a bit.
But to me The Holy Grail was more like the TV series, in that it is a series of distinct sketches but unlike the TV show it's all linked together with a common theme.
"c'est une cadeau"
"tis but a scratch"
"can't I have a little peril?"
"she's got huuuge tracks of land"
Kryten : "'Pub'? Ah yes, A meeting place where humans attempt to achieve advanced states of mental incompetence by the repeated consumption of fermented vegetable drinks."

It's certainly much better than The Meaning of Life. By the way, is "Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl" considered a movie?

The Holy Grail is among my favorite movies of all time. I think I may have seen it easily about 20 or more times.

Well, it's some sort of "live movie".Wink Essentially it's a live stage performance with lengthy pre-recorded sketches thrown in. Some of them are quite good!

Monty Python is the second best english thing ever! Wink The Meaning of Life for me. It's so bizarre and I find myself laughing all the way through.

It is just about the best comedy ever because as well as being funny (though there are probably more belly laughs in Holy Grail) its a scathing attack on organised religion, the blind following the blind...sorry!!

I've gone for life of Brian... I love Grail, but if you were brought up having to go to Sunday School, then LoB carries special resonance...Wink

I think the best is The Life of Brian, but my favourite is The Meaning of Life -- ridiculously insightful.   And who says Philosophy isn't exciting?

MRS. HENDY: Oh! I never knew Schopenhauer was a philosopher!
MR. HENDY: Oh, yeah! He's the one that begins with an 'S'.
MRS. HENDY: Oh.
MR. HENDY: Umm, like, uh, 'Nietzsche'.
MRS. HENDY: Does 'Nietzsche' begin with an 'S'?
MR. HENDY: Uh, there's an 's' in 'Nietzsche'.
MRS. HENDY: O , wow. Yes, there is. Do all philosophers have an 's' in them?
MR. HENDY: Uh, yeah. I think most of 'em do.

 All three are great, however.

I was actually one helluva baked couch potato when I first saw it -- never laughed so hard.

Although it's great fun, I'm so tired of the Holy Grail. Everyone runs around calling it the best movie ever. I call it a hype. The Meaning of Life is my favourite, followed by Life of Brian.

I think Holy Grail is the most enjoyalble as a whole. The Meaning of Life has fantastic sketches, and I never laughed so loud as in the Latin lesson of "Life of Brian" (which reminded me of my own Latin classes).

Bigger on the inside.

Hmmm... I beleive that you 're all wrong...Tongue

"The Meaning of Life" is an excellent movie, very clever and really funny ! So do the other 2 (which simply rock !) but I still believe that the third is just a masterpiece of the Pythons (as a swang songCry...)
By the way, I 'll choose the "holy Grail" instead, because I see that a lot of people like it ! So do I LOL

Holy Grail just shades it from Brian
