Sorry mate, forgive an old mind fraying at the seams.

Please refresh my memory as to who this gentleman is.

I must remind the right honourable gentleman that a monologue is not a decision.

^ that would explain it then. I have no GG at all in my collection. A terrible omission that I hope to rectify soon courtesy of a very generous but shy forum member that shall remain nameless (unless that individual doesn't mind me telling ).

He's a hell of a drummer!! Energetic, precise, solid, and at the same time, able to keep up creatively with his partners' complex interplays -- he even becomes important to the melodic section of GG's music at times, not unlike Barlow in 72-78 JT, Palmer in the first 5 ELP albums, or vand der Linden in his Focus days. I know that Barriemore, Carl and Rick are very different from John, but my point is that they don't confine themselves to the rhythm functionality, but their rolls and other percussive tricks become essential in all these bands' musial richness.

John's rock foundation is evident, yet he's not square, but very inventive and versatile.

Regards.

John Weathers may be one of the most overlooked drummers in 70s prog, but the true giant of the Premier kit was:

 Christian Vander

I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

I had the great fortune to see Gentle Giant in concert way back in 1976 and John and the others were unbelievable

I also think Gary Green deserves a mention. What a great understated technique he has. A fine guitarist. He is really under-rated in my opinion. If you listen to Spock's Beard you can hear his influence everywhere.
