Just a great band letting off some steam and having fun. None more, none less.

I like the first 3 or so tracks. But I thought Al Lifeson could've pulled off a sweeter and longer solo than he did on Crossroads. From a production point of view, it is great. I didn't like the gatefold packaging; once I opened the CD, it wouldn't stay closed. In that respect, the packaging could've been better.

Didn't like it at all. On one hand, the promise of Rush jamming out in a more stripped down fashion than they have since, what, 1974? that sounds exciting, in theory. But most of the songs left me flat, maybe that's because I'm not a big fan of any of those songs/bands.
Not sure if anyone agrees, but I think Rush was the most focused band, EVER. Whether you like everything they did or not, they maintained an excellent 4 studio albums/1 live album pattern that seemed to work for them and help recharge their batteries occasionally. Now, after Vapor Trails, the first in the studio cycle, they've put out yet another live album and then a covers album. When bands start doing this, it often signals a downward slide...but they're getting old, and I guess they're allowed...

Maybe they should have covered some Rush songs?

yeah, i fear, maybe without reason, that the band isn't going to be recording anything new... and that saddens me. Although I thought that Feedback was a nice listen and all, I would love to hear some new material, and something more adventurous than Vapor Trails... it'd just be cool to see that the band is somehow moving on to reinvent inself yet again, as it has done so many times... I mean, with all the musical influences out there, they could do anything, and from interviews I've read the band's members continue to listen to new sounds... it'd just be interesting to see them interpret some of what's going on and make it an element in their work.

It was short and sweet, and a bit of 5 minute wonder here, (even though
Classic Rock magazine rated it one of the albums of 2004 - but they
completely missed so many others e.g. I.Q's). Interesting to hear Rush
do some classic numbers other than their own but they didn't take any
real risks wrt rearangement (cf. A Perfect Circle's Emotive), so the originals still remain the definite versions.
