pretty self explanatory which of these timeless sports moments is your favorite?
Without a doubt for me it the big finish to the 1982 California v. Stanford THE BAND IS ON THE FIELD! THE BEARS! THE BEARS!

next would be the 1980 USA v USSR hockey or Jessie Owens 1936 debunking the Aryan supremacy by beating the Germans in Germany as an American black man

sorry I didn't include cricket, soccer, rugby etc. I don't know what the big moments in those sports are

Legendary Dutch forward Marco Van Basten scoring 2-1 against host Germany (just before his tough opponent Jurgen Kohler) in the European football semi-finals in 1988, entire Holland exploded because of joy Approve.. some deeper frustrations from 1974 were released, finally Wink
 
Second best is Diego Maradonna his incredible solo from his own half against England in 1986 during the Football World Championship in Mexico in 1986 Clap
 
By the way, looking at the possible 'best all time sport moments' in this thread,  it's obvious that the author is from the USA were baseball, ice hockey, American football and basketball are way more popular than football..

Non of the above.

1979 French GP at Dijon, Gilles Villeneuve (Ferrari) and Rene Arnoux (Renault) battled wheel to wheel (litterely) for the last three laps. Villeneuve should have been nowhere by then as his tyres were worn out, but he fought Arnoux and finnished second, behind Jean Pierre Jaboulle (sp?) who won Renaults first Formula 1 race.

My personal all-time favorite sports moment was Cal Ripken Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig's consecutive games record at Camden Yards.I was there,and it was a magic moment,it gives me goosebumps even thinking about it right now.

You've missed the obvious one - the 1988 FA Cup Final. Wimbledon defeating the odds to trounce the mighty Liverpool 1-0 (and Dave Beasant saves a penalty).

It was my birthday as well. After spending the evening drinking the pubs in Wimbledon dry (I kid you not - they ran out of beer on tap!), I went home in a Sainsbury's shopping trolley.

Not only Europe or North America have their "best all time moments" in sports but also Latin America, Africa, Oceania & Asia. Smile
 
Later I'll probably list mine... but that 1st lap of Ayrton Senna, in GP Europe 1993 was breathtaking! Star
 
EDIT: anyway, the deeds of Jesse Owens, in 1936, are a kind of heritage for the entire humankind! Clap

Vanderbilt Commodores Men's Basketball - Holwerda Heave in the NIT (yeah) tournament against Wichita State.
 
Hear's the breakdown.  Vanderbilt is up three, and fouls Wichita State (while shooting) with about 2 seconds left.  State pulls the classic make the first miss the second, got the rebound, and scored with .7 seconds left, tying the game.
 
Holwerda (vanderbilt shooting guard) heaves the ball all the way downcourt to Smith (vanderbilt power forward), who layed it up as the buzzer sounded.
 
 
 
 
 
Well..., it made ESPN's #1 play that night...
 
 
Of course, there's also the time a high school student knocked away an inbounds pass with 1 sec left and started celebrating, while the inbounder picked up the ball and heaved it down three quarters of the court and scored (and his team won).
 
But I'm a Vanderbilt fan, so that one has to win, especially since it means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of anything (except for about a day of happiness for me, until they lost by 20 the next game...).
