Cave-in is a very proggy metalcore (metal, but with a
bit of hardcore) band. i would say they are very close
to the hardest opeth songs. before making a choice i
would say to download their first album "Until Your
Heart Stops" and give it a few listens.

or download the song "Sea Frost" from their latest
alvum, titled "Antenna"

tell me what you think, after you give it a listen.

Not really; I like them and they're arty but I think it's a whole different thing to prog.

Wouldn't have said so. My son enjoys their music, but he and I agree they're pop orientated, with little or no prog.

Ive got their last three albums and they have very, very slight prog elements in a couple of tracks only, and particularly the track 'seafrost' that Asuma mentions.

The other month Classic Rock magazine put one of their tunes on a compilation of bands that they classed as New Prog rock.

They are a band that could easily move more towards prog though.

I like them but not prog enough by any standards.

Excellent band, at least once the evolved away from metalcore, 'Jupiter' is much more "Prog-ish" than 'Antenna' ('Jupiter' is a masterpiece!), but I'm not sure they encompass enough prog traits to be considered prog...had 'Antenna' gone further into the cosmic sound 'Jupiter' explored, you might have something there, but as is, I'm leaning toward saying "nah..."

You said it in your first sentence Asuma: "Cave-in is a very proggy metalcore"  this is a prog place, if we're going to add bands they have to be PROGRESSIVE, not Proggy or remotely prog.

Just a  few days ago my 16 years cousin lent me Beyond Hypothermia and Anthena, to be sincere I found the band loud a chaotic with almost no progressive rock relation.

If we are going to add bands, lets be sure they are real prog' ones not a bunch of people that have one or two barely prog' tracks like Seafrost in this case (The only one that had any progressive relation).
