Thissun frae a fellaw vinylhound wic ah correspons wiv:

"This is a tough one. The "term" Heavy Metal is said to come from a multiple number of sources. For example, William Burroughs used the term in 1962 in one of his early books "The Soft Machine", Steppenwolf sings of Heavy Metal Thunder & a reviewer described Hendrix's music as Heavy Metal music falling from the sky in one psychedelic interpretation.
All this aside, heavy music was coming in from all areas of the globe between 1966 & 1969. The true birthplace of heavy metal may be in dispute for eternity but I believe most avid appreciators of the genre will agree it was Birmingham, England.
Blue Cheer, like Cream, were a Heavy Blues band, heavily influenced by drugs and the wars of that time. These bands had a mixed philosophy of psychedelia & protest within most of their songs.
A different and slightly more sinister form of heavy music was born out of the industrial working class in England & secondarily, Detroit, Michigan. This is what most commonly became what we 70s bird call "Early Heavy Metal". Bands like Black Sabbath & Led Zeppelin, another Birminghamite band, led the cause for that which was the nightly club gatherings of alcohol charged revolt against the slave like conformity that these band member's parents had been fatally inducted into. Namely, heavy metal foundry work.
This was a GRUELING form of "kill yourself to make a living" drudgery, that sent families spiraling into rapid decay often associated with alcoholism and health related failures from breathing iron and glass fumes & particles for 10-16 hours a day. This work was so hard, and the conditions so detrimental, that factories could only work their employees an hour on & a half hour off or they would drop dead on the spot. This became the bitter social root motivation for the dark and powerful force of true "I ain't gonna take it no more" revolution amongst the youth that watched their mums & dads spitting up blood all night from a living that barley covered the families bills. Hence, "I AM IRON MAN" The *true* heavy metal anthem."

Led Zep a Birminghamite band??

What because Plant is a brummie?

Are Rush a Jewish band-Geddy Lee is Jewish.

This is unadulterated nonesense. What is sinister about Led Zep. OOh all working class people are devil-worshippers.Come on, youre better than this tripe.
