Thanks, Reed Lover. I'll give the album a try.

Sorry, I haven't written back right away. I was really busy (work-related) the past couple days.

I first got hooked onto Progressive Rock when I first heard "Heat of the Moment" by Asia in the early 80's when I was 9. Heard to believe that I can remember how young I was when I first heard it! (I'm in my 30s now). Decided that I just had to have the album, asked for it that Christmas and got it!!! I still have it to this day.

Favorite bands/artists: Asia, Yes, ELP, Genesis

Welcome! This is a great forum if you don't let all the egomaniacs "I know more than you do and I've heard 30,000 albums to prove it Na na na" or the silly  "my favourite  band is better than your favourite band"  get in the way.

[QUOTE=Easy Livin]

Hi PH, welcome.

Big smile

There's a couple of threads on Roger Dean and his work, you'll find them using the search facility. Do you feel that his artwork is a sort of recommendation of an album? What i mean is, if you came acrsos an album with a work of his on the sleeve, would you be more inclinded to buy it?

Hi there, Easy:

Sometimes, though it would depend if I really dig the band's music. Take Yes, for example. I really like Jon Anderson's singing style; there's something about his way of singing...it's hard to pin it down at the moment....(right now, I'm taking a quick break from my work as I'm typing this)...tracks such as "Starship Trooper", "Wondrous Stories" and "Take the Water to the Mountain" (from the "Union" CD; you know, it's a shame when this album came out, music critics simply blew it off as "fluff"; I really enjoyed it) are my favorites because they have such an ethereal and dreamy quality about them. But, that's just my take on it.

Also, is it just me, or do others find that some of Dean's artwork have a "Middle Earth" quality to them? Sorry, there's that hobbity side of me coming out right now.    What can I say, Tolkien's work is amazing!

Good to see an Asia supported by the way, they take a lot of stick around here!

...Really? Am I among the minority? Well, either way, they're pretty cool. Though their best period was when John Wetton was with them.

name some of your favourite albums in your collection (doesn't have to be just prog) so we can see what you're into!

Hi, Frenchie:

Sure, I'd love to name some. In no particular order, here they are:

Genesis

  • - Genesis
  • - Invisible Touch

Yes

  • Classic Yes
  • Union
  • 90125
  • Big Generator

Trevor Rabin

  • Can't Look Away

Jon Anderson

  • Three Ships

Emerson, Lake & Palmer

  • Trilogy
  • The Very Best of Emerson, Lake & Palmer
  • The Return of the Manticore (boxed set)

Peter Gabriel:

  • So

Uriah Heep: (not sure if this counts as Progressive, but what the heck)

  • Classic Heep: An Anthology

Asia:

  • Asia
  • Alpha
  • Then & Now
  • Anthology: The Very Best of Asia
  • Live in Nottingham
  • Astra

Pink Floyd:

  • Dark Side of the Moon
  • Delicate Sound of Thunder
  • The Wall
  • Wish You Were Here
  • Animals
  • The Division Bell
  • The Final Cut
  • A Momentary Lapse of Reason

UK - Night After Night: Live

John Wetton - King's Road

David Gilmour

  • David Gilmour
  • About Face

So, far that's it as far as prog goes. However, other albums I have are (mostly hard rock, metal, etc)

Rainbow - The Very Best of Rainbow

Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin II

Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes

Live

  • Throwing Copper
  • Secret Samadhi
  • V

Heart

  • Little Queen
  • Dreamboat Annie

Right now, this is all I can remember. Though I have a hell of alot more. I'm currently reorganizing my music collection. Right now, it's out of order and also out of control. Normally, I would have them in alphabetical order and when there's more than one album per artist/group, I like to arrange them chronologically, in the order in which they were released.

This collection will grow as time goes by....love to share your thoughts on these as well as what you have in your collection!

Cheers,

- Proghobbit

Not much of a welcome, is it?

That's ok, James. Loved the feedback from all you guys! I'll definitely try out the albums you guys recommended. By the way, James, 'proghobbit' is a "she".

Whoops, sorry for confusing genders. I took the safe bet, as women are fairly scarce around here. (Threefates believes they get scared or sick of our foolishness almost immediately ).

Plus, the female hobbit has had very little representation; we're conditioned to assume that any hobbit heroes would be male. After all, female hobbits barely got any lines in the entire trilogy, and none at all in "The Hobbit". Let's petition Peter Jackson to pull a George Lucas and replace Sam with "Samantha Gamgee"; that might take care of the love story element he felt was so important to the films.

As usual, I'm just talking crap.
