Just finished listening to Sting's Seven Days, and I must say, Vinnie Colaiuta's drumming on that particular song is A-OK. I guess it's quite fair to equate prog with great drum productions, but how about non prog music? Care to recommend me some non prog songs with good drumlines ( jazz leanings much appreciated)? No metal this time.WinkBig%20smile

Well, Police's drummer, Stewart Copeland, is simply amazing! Sometimes he may remind you of Bill Bruford for the straight and "dry" approach (in particular for the close dialogue between hi-hat, snare and rim-shots).

I saw Sting for the Blue Turtles tour and he had Omar Hakim, surely one of the most skilled and refined drummers

I've always liked Copeland's drumming as well, and Tommy Aldridge on Diary of a Madman

^^ Just some songs: "Message in a bottle", "Regatta de Blanc" and "Contact" from Regatta de Blanc, "Bombs away" and "The other way of stopping" from Zenyatta Mondatta and "Omegaman" from The Ghost in the Machine.

Definitely not the most advanced thing out there, but I just love the drumming (and the interplay with the atmospheric instrumentation) on Death Cab For Cutie's Different Names For The Same Thing (album: "Plans").

Jeff Porcaro on Toto's "Rosanna" is pure perfection. The master of the shuffle groove.

Well, maybe behind Bernard Purdie. What a groove he lays down for "Babylon Sisters".

I'm sure you know that Colaiuta worked with Holdsworth right? If not check out Secrets.

Barriemore Barlow was the drummer of Jethro Tull, but a few years after his departure, he joined Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force to perform in the s/t album. Despite my doubts about if that album is prog or not (see my thread recently created Wink), you can still consider it non-prog with superb drum work. Big%20smile
The best you can is good enough...

Echo and the Bunnymen - 'All My Colours'(AKA Zimbo)
The live version is fantastic as E&tB are augmented by the Burndi Drummers.

Actually almost anything that the late Peter De Freitas laid his sticks to sounded great. RIP

Public Image - P.I.L. Martyn Atkins drumming is superb.
Most of the early P.I.L. records are superb as the rhythm section (Jah Wobble and Martyn Atkins) are cribbing from the Can blueprint.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.
