I had my hands on it at FNAC in Milan and put it back....not the best book you can get IMO....  the best is 'The Return of Italian Pop'. More extensive bios, discographies, plus various  interviews with assorted group members. Entries on almost 400 RPI groups.  Essential book... find it.. get it... learn it... live it LOL

I have the Rock Progressivo Ialiano book ... while it is a fairly comprehensive discography listing and has a great companion CD, it is lacking the detail to make it a really good information resource. (And the one album I specifically opened it up to get the year of release from was not in there - QVL's Live - even though it was released in 1993 and the book was published in 2005.)
 
I would suggest RPI is a good coffee table book that can stimulate conversation when it is picked up, but does not offer a lot besides being 'pretty'.
 
Something that would be really hot would be to be able to get a CD or DVD with the complete set of (non-jpeg) cover artwork from the RPI book in at least CD cover size. Just about every picture in the book seems to be from a top quality source.
 
Micky, I will keep an eye out for The Return Of Italian Pop.

Micky,  Correct me if I'm wrong but I take it that from the title it's covering a lot more than just Italian Prog.

No, the book is exactly about Italian Prog, or RPI as we usually call it here. Strange as it may sound, in Seventies Italy 'pop' meant something quite different than today - namely, any music that was not classical or jazz. Prog was not quite the same as rock in the eyes of the press, so it was called pop.

Anyway, I know the book well, and, in spite of the rather poor English translation, it is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in RPI. Pity it's about 10 years old now, and therefore not  too up-to-date.
