Terrible in general or by G'n'R standards though? I couldn't take listening to more than one song ('Street of Dreams'), but it didn't sound significantly worse than most of the stuff from Use Your Illusion.

Both.  I generally think G n' R were pretty awful, but the music on this album is just terrible.  Its dated (not in a good way), overly predictable.  Every song has the exact same structure of "lets make each song the combination of all the elements the hits had".  Axl's vocals are worse then ever and totally drenched with autotune.  The lyrics are no exception either, but were they ever? yeah.  REALLLY REALLY DO NOT like G n R.  past or present.

I don't like GnR either, but I thought this was a fascinating review.

I voted "bad", the title track and "Better" ate decent songs..which made it not "terrible".
I look at the world and see no understanding...

OK. I do wonder how the album will sell. Whether the non-diehard fans will buy it in any significant numbers.

I'm choosing to be very unpopular here and vote that it's a masterpiece.

You can't look at this CD from a prog perspective - it's purely a minstream release, and the most ambitious hard rock album to come along in more than a decade. I agree that Axl is annoying, and will doubtlessly fill the music news headlines with reports of not showing up for shows, last-minute cancellations, etc. But the songs, performances, and production on this are all top-notch, for the genre and audience that it was intended for.

That being said, I'd rather listen to Yes or Karmakanic. But for what it is intended, it's brilliant.

I guess the stack of comments underneath is even more fascinating. A quick glance at the top one-third was enough to melt my brain through my eye sockets,

Yeah and now Axl is demanding an apology from Dr. Pepper.   Gotta keep the hype machine rolling.  When you have to bring in the lawyers this early in the game, the only conclusion is:  what a loser.

I really don't understand, after listening to the album a couple of times, how people find this "terrible" - it sounds better to me than most drivel that's coming out this year.
Bigger on the inside.

I haven't listened yet but when you take that long to make an album and with all the hype that's gone on over the years they're just setting themselves up for a kicking. I don't see how they could ever win. Even their diehard fans must have got p**s*d off with them years ago. Confused

Actually, I've just listened to 2 tracks now and mediocre springs to mind.

I certainly at least agree with that.

I listened to it in a deserted HMV store today. Another nice album to help 14 year olds to remember their high school puberty days from and if this isn't the demographic it's aimed at I'll be a Monkey's uncle. They weren't flying out of the store and people weren't queing up to the listening post. Much better than Slash's Snake Pit crap. At least it's better than the new AC DC album which just sticks to the old formula.

Of the seven "terrible" votes, I would be willing to bet my own copy of the CD that 6 of them never heard it -- it's just too much fun to insult this CD...

Asking about a mainstream hard rock release on a prog forum is like starting a Magma thread on Clay Aiken's forum!

It's definitely going to sell more copies than Magma ever did in their whole career ! One thing that suprised me was the more mellow sections with keyboards. I didn't see the credits but it could be Axle himself. I remember him getting up and playing the piano on a cover version of Black Sabbath's She's Gone( from Technical Ecstasy ).

Hmmm...do you think there's enough keyboards to start an entertaining thread suggesting that Chinese Democracy be added to Prog-Related/Proto-Prog? Tongue

The album is good. It has some weaker moments but in general is a very recommended buy for fans of rock, hard rock and light metal.

And, yes, song 3 ("better") does sound like DT somewhat...ConfusedConfused
