Topic: A Whiter Shade of Satin Posted: December 23 2008 at 04:35 |
Because the title "Nights in a Whiter Shade of Pale" wouldn't fit.
Basically, I saw the promo videos for both these songs, and it occured to me that the videos were somewhat similar.
Then it occured to me that the bands were somewhat similar.
Just that...you know...Procol's better.
But of these two songs...hmm...I'd be apt to say that "Nights" is better. Dunno though; "Shade" is no slouch either--it also doesn't have that dopey poetry at the end.
(Hmm...or did I mean the SINGLE versions...in that case, go with "Nights.")

A Whiter Shade of Pale. Nights in White Satin is a bit to sweet for my taste, as is the whole Daysof Future Passed album.

I think the eerie air of desperation and pure emotion of Nights In White Satin is more convincing and appealing. A Whiter Shade of Pale just feels flatter in comparison.

Knights in White Satin is the only song I don't especially like on that Moody album. Whiter Shade of Pale however, is very awesome and enjoyable.

Very tough! What to choose?
I think... Nights In White Satin, for the reason that LinusW mentioned.

went with "whiter shade" , because I think it stands up better to repeat listening than "Nights..." Both songs have been overplayed but in general if I had to hear one it would be "Whiter Shade..". The same is true for "Conquistador". That said, I think the Moodys albums were better than Procol's.

Satin is one of the weaker songs of the Moody Blues, but good though. I much prefer "One more Time to Live" or "Land of Make Believe", or "Beyond". "Whiter Shade of Pale" is better than "Nights" in my opinion...

I defenitely think Moody is a better band than Pro H.
Infact i belive Moody is very basic Prog. (in Search of the lost Cord 1968 !!!!!)
To me PH is just another beat orcestra, must admit i only know them from occational records played by
friends, never wanted 1 myself.
BUT:
best track from the above mentioned is : A whiter Shade - absolutely a wonderfull classic track.
