A hint for beginners: they're both horrible. But the key challenges is to decide whether Pitchfork's hilariously pretentious d-baggery is more tolerable than RollingStone's general lack of knowledge about anything actually related to music.

At least Pitchfork reviews have some substance and reach a wide array of music despite being mostly "WTF THIS ISNT INDIE 2.5 STARS LOL"

I didn't bother with either of them.
I'm surprised by this poor selection, though, Stonie. Only two sites you could think of? Edited by Ricochet - April 17 2009 at 10:22 |

I enjoy Pitchfork's ability to report on the news in parts of the music world. But their reviews are absolutely terrible. Not just the ignorance of the writers, but the writing itself is pretty bad. Then again....what rock and roll criticism is well written?
Rolling Stone is just boring and hashes out 3 1/2 stars to anything unless made by Radiohead, Springsteen, U2, Petty, and other mag friendly groups.

You can't be angry at Rolling Stone, they give every album 3 stars. Pitchfork is far more annoying because some people still take them seriously. |

I kind of regret having mentioned NME. I just went back to the site, clicked on the newest album review, and it was very good, and checked out the music which is excellent (in fact if it's not here already, I will suggest it for the site). I'd heard bad things about the site, but it's much better than I thought.
