Hi new on here  I would say Songs from the wood allied with the follow up Heavy Horses. Still 2 of my fav Tull albums.

Somewhere I read that before recording Songs from the Wood, Ian Anderson colaborated with a real folk group, anyone here knows more about the albums from that group? it might help the discussion.

Hi    About the folk group with tull about the time songs fromm the wood came out Ian played on a steeleye span album now we are 6   i think it was called wil check that  Now im sure they rehearsd for a tout that never happend so will say steeleye span   not a bad group electric folk in their mid life so to speak  hope this helps   J

I recommend Spirogyra !
 
It is acoustic, full of beautyful songs. Just buy the compilation "A Canterbury tale" that includes their 3 albums and some great bonus tracks.
 
I agree with everyone here that early Tull, Songs from the woods and Heavy horses are the most folky albums (Broadsword and the beast is also folky and a nice album but I find it less powerful than the others).
