I think Gong should be here, more than in the Canterbury
section.
They are Space, cosmic and psychedelic, what most Canterbury bands like Caravan or soft machine are not.

THe problem with Gong is that they are clearly

SPACE FUSION

so, IMO, they don't fit in any category (Canterbury, Fusion, or Space rock)

But if I had to make a choice, I would place them in the FUSION category.

Well up until You, they are most easily classified as psychedelic/space rock, after that, with Pierre Moerlen (RIP), at the helm, they are most definitely fusion.

But...since most people most closely associate Gong with the Daevid Allen eras, both early and recent, I would have to vote for psychedelic/space. And other than the Soft Machine/Pip Pyle association, I have always wondered myself about their Canterbury label.

Actually, what with how convoluted the history is, I think they should have their own category!
