I didn't want to post this in the "suggest new artists" forum since I don't think The Knife is really a progressive band (and I have no experience in progressive electronic), but something tells me this album would fit anyway. It's a strange electronic opera with loads of ambient and drone sections that really defies classification (to me, at least). It's definitely "something else".

There's an example song at the bottom of this page:
http://theknife.net/tommorow-in-a-year-information.html
And it's also available on Spotify.

So, yeah. I think it's a great album and I was just thinking that somebody here would perhaps agree, and perhaps come with some pontiers on whether it's prog or not.

EDIT: By the way, it should be mentioned that that sample song, "Colouring of Pidgeons", is probably the most "poppy" one on the entire album.

Exceptional album. I also thought it was progressive in the general meaning of the word, I'll have to re-listen it to see if it's prog-worthy.

Yeah, exceptional is the right word to describe it, I believe.
Despite it being 1 hour and 32 minutes long, I just sat and listened to it from start to finish without even pausing once, just letting it "envelop me", so to speak. It really paints a picture for you that manages to be interesting at all times despite being almost 30% drone and ambient. Pretientious through the roof, but I would easily give it five stars; there's really nothing I could ever think of removing from, or adding to, it.

Another rock band performed a rock-opera/ballet with an opera singer. The project was called Evankeliumi which is a black/death metal opera/ballet featuring the band Waltari and Tarja Turunen as the opera singer
