I hit up my local Borders and grabbed the Transatlantic CD tonight and noticed that they wanted an extra $2 for the jewel case over the digipack. I grabbed the digipack. Jewel cases tend to break and are less environmentally friendly as the digipacks.

Gotta be digipaks/digibooks for me, I'm an absolute sucker when it comes to packaging.

I don't know what the third option is, and between the first two I pick the digipack.

Usually digipak, but when I buy online I try to get the jewel case one so I can replace it after the guys at the post office have broken it.

^ thanks! I've never seen a CD offered for sale in such a package. Also, it looks just like the normal paper sleeve... But I guess it has some super-powers.

Jewel Case guy all the way here.  I hate digis.  If the spokes on a jewel case break, you toss it and move the disc to a new case.  If your digi spokes break, you're toast.  They also don't protect your cover art from wear, and that annoying little slot for the booklet always tears along the bottom.

Of course, Slarti is right too, when Japanese minis are available, that rocks.  Big smile

I don't really like jewel cases - they break too easily. Digipaks are much better, although some people haven't worked out that we actually need to be able to get the CDs out of the digipaks (and preferably without scratching them).

The absolute WORST is cd/dvd packaging that houses the disc in a slip pocket.   OMG record people what are you thinking?  These pockets are often super tight, and I've pulled dvds out of these slip pockets to find them already scratched prior to the first play.

Wilson did this with the new Insurgentes dvd.  For someone concerned about quality, he should know better.  I've had to move the discs from the packaging into jewel cases so they won't get further scratches.

I love CD packaging of all types. I like Jewel Case best for ease of storage and less stress about damaging it since components can be replaced. But I love owning Mini-LPs and digipacks/digibooks too. I've also got some uniquely packaged CDS - for example, the latest DAAU album came in a wooden box, that was pretty dang unique and cool

At the end of the day, I don't care all that much.  As long as the packaging doesn't fall apart.

I like digipacks the most, even if I don't own many of them.

Yes, I have a few like this - Pendragon's "Pure" springs to mind. It's almost impossible to get them out of the pockets without either scratching the discs or getting finger prints all over them.
