Actually, I would say they're a little more RIO than avant...those twisted pop sensibilities...;) -Avant Prog, IMO, is either very rocked, or jazzed, and generally heavy/aggressive/intense. RIO more everything + the kitchen sink music]
I'm still on the fence, but I think it's a yes... Edited by listennow801 - October 28 2011 at 10:21 |

Ah, okay - good to know. I think we should only list the prog album in the DB though, otherwise it's very misleading... Or at lease note the FACT in their BIO... [Must say, this place is a tad loose sometimes imo...I like professionalism in my DB info ;)] Edited by listennow801 - October 28 2011 at 09:40 |

^ No, as far as I know it's always been the same. One prog album is enough for addition in a prog category, but the album needs to be 100% prog.
This is a guideline of course, not a mandatory rule, so a team can reject a band with a prog album in the case of exceptional context. That's what happened with Vangelis for example. But that normally regards high profile bands, of which is not the case here. Edited by harmonium.ro - October 28 2011 at 09:34 |

I imagine that's a joke [the wink], but things have changed a lot around here over the years so maybe I'm wrong...? |

Wow, that was great! Very AP indeed! Now, if they have a whole album that sounds like that, we should list that indeed I would say! [I would want it too! :)] |

I understand, but we do not list a band in the DB because of one album, we list them because of the bands overall oeuvre: are they an A-P band? Not Did they do an AP album? I once listed an artist who had a lot of AP work, but not all of his discography fit, so we didn't list the rest that didn't. But that was quite a number of albums. If the one you're speaking of really sticks out maybe we could list them for that, but we should def. not list what I listened to! We have to think of what people who use the DB are looking for. If I came here looking for AP & found that, I would be pissed and feel very misled. If I were just learning the genre, I would have a very incorrect idea of what it was. |

Thanks guys. The difficulty in suggesting bands is finding samples to post that do justice to the band. I also have Black and White Mass, and their live show is simlarly mad (and prog!).

Cleo, pleeease don't judge a.P.A.t.T. solely on those samples above. I have their album "Black and White Mass" and its impact (and progginess) is only really evident when you take it as a whole. It's a manic, constantly-shifting kaleidoscope of an album, like Mr Bungle on fast-forward. Please try and find that album before making a final decision. Also, listen to this and tell me it's not avant-prog. |

This may havesome "avant garde" inclinations, but it's not even vaguely avant prog imo - sorry. I don't think they are prog enough for inclusion in PA at all myself, but I really don't know what the Crossover team's guidelines are - sorry couldn't be of more help. |

According to Wiki, "The letters a.P.A.t.T. seemingly stand for nothing fixed, but might be related to the compositional and organizational philosophies involved in a.P.A.t.T.". None the wiser, myself. Perhaps it is, "A Place At The Table"?

I've alerted the team, so the wheels are in motion. Could be a fair while before a decision's reached, but rest assured I'll be lobbying hard for these guys.

Thanks David. They seem both progressive rock and avant to me, but I don't claim any expertise in what the RIO Avant team is looking for. Are you able to raise this with your team members or does it need passing by the mods on this board first?
