Pretty big event for musical historians right now, which is the release of the 30th Beach Boys album, their first in twenty years, which features all three surviving "classic" Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and Mike Love, That's Why God Made The Radio. Here's the title track:
 
 
How is it? Fine. It's neither a triumph nor a disaster. You could've told me it was an aborted album from 1993 and I'd believe you which is both a bad thing (lack of progression/sophistication) and a good thing (that classic sweet pop hit is still there.) They certainly don't sound their age (approx 70). Anyway, wondered what others thought of it.

Kind of cheesy but it does them justice still, i think.

I wonder if that title is a deliberate appeal to nostalgia or genuine cluelessness. "That's Why God Made mp3s" doesn't quite have the same ring to it though.

I'm not actually much of a Beach Boys fan but they're a significant act and I was curious as to what a 2012 record would sound like.

Interesting fact, that song, "That's Why God Made the Radio", was first played on the radio on a sports talk show, Mike and Mike in the Morning. They streamed a little bit of it when it first came out. I was listening at the time. It was cool, and I really liked that song, but I haven't heard the rest of the album.
