le Forte Four was a part of the Los Angeles Free Music Society, and had many members of Smegma (http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5114). Very strange stuff, and pretty similar to Smegma's wild experimental excursion's.

Interesting one. More samples needed for evaluation though ...

Here are two old recordings of radio shows featuring music by Le Forte Four on WFMU 91.1 fm: These will load in a small pop-up player, and once started will run to the end of the show unless you stop them!

Brian Turner - December 1, 2009 LAFMS retrospective show featuring Rick Potts, Tom Recchion, Joe Potts, Fredrik Nilsen, Dennis Duck, and Vetza Trussell, plus live set from AIRWAY: Whole Show (3 hours) http://wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=33852&archive=57224 or if you just want the Forte Four parts: http://wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=33852&archive=57224&starttime=0:19:54 ('Amazing Three' - from V/A: LAFMS: The Lowest Form of Music, followed by a short live version of 'Japanese Super Heroes' - from the same album, recorded at Century City Playhouse), and: http://wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=33852&archive=57224&starttime=2:03:12 (excerpts from their first album 'Bikini Tennis Shoes', some brief chat with Chip Chapman, followed by 'Keep That Point Up' / '4000 Holes in Blackburn, Lancashire' - from V/A: LAFMS: The Lowest Form of Music).

This one's actually not very old at all: Daniel Blumin - January 28, 2012 : Whole show: http://wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=43665&archive=75337 or to start at the Forte Four track: http://wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=43665&archive=75337&starttime=0:18:40 ('Japanese Superheroes' - full track from 'Spin 'N Grin').

Sorry - I couldn't find more from this band on YouTube. Cry

And checked samples provided by David (yam yam).
Good stuffs (sometimes tinged with avant flavour) but not rock totally ... sorry but from me "NO".

Something tells me that there are quite a few bands in Avant that you don't think should be there....

A lot of bands in avant were added without team consent so often there is no past opinion.

Well, thats pretty sillyErmm. Still, someone, somewhere, who was high enough 'rank' to add bands thought they were.

I guess thats why bands like The Residents, Otomo Yoshihide, Henry Kaiser, Smegma, Naked City, John Zorn etc...  are here....

Nope, when the site was first founded anyone could add bands. When people realized bullsh*t acts were being added, teams were set up and the free-for-all adding system was discarded. Few bands were actually deleted, but they're still there. If you notice a band was added by "ProgLucky" down at the bottom more often than not our absent found didn't actually add them but some random user from 2003.

Interesting, I didn't know just anyone used to be able to add new bands.  I guess that explains a lot.

I've also come to understand that for the purposes of this site, everything "progressive" or different/adventurous isn't necessarily "prog".  It was a tough stream to cross, but I think I get it now.

Wow, thats  surprising. So someone could have up and just added Michael Jackson or The Bee Gees?

@ Steve. I have a hard time seeing where progressive and prog take separate roads. Seems to me the whole idea of a band being prog relies a lot on being 'progressive' and 'different/adventurous'.
