Levitation was a heavy alt rock / psych rock band from England.  They released only one proper studio album, an EP compliation, and unreleased (re-)recording of old and new songs:

Coterie (1992 EP compliation)
Need For Not (1992 studio album)
Meanwhile Gardens (1994 unreleased old/new collection)

I was recommended this band in the early 90s on the FidoNet 60S_70S_PROGROCK echo.  The first time I listened to it my reaction was "what the heck?  This is a bunch of noise, not progressive rock like Yes and Genesis!"  Tongue

Their Wikipedia page has the following statement:
"Levitation had a strong psychedelic element and a tendency towards complex music and unusual public pronouncements, which meant that the band were often credited - or accused - by the music press with attempting to rehabilitate progressive rock. In fact, Levitation's influences were diverse and included Cardiacs, Krautrock, Television, XTC, Killing Joke, Wire, Zappa, Swans, Devo, Gentle Giant, Faust, Public Image Limited, Echo & the Bunnymen and Julian Cope."

I am unsure of which sub-genre to recommend it to, but I imagine it has to be one of:
- Psychedelic Prog
- Crossover Prog
- Heavy Prog

World Around

Pieces Of Mary

Hangnail

Arcs of Light and Dew

Jep.

Here's the overview page, if you want. I've bookmarked it so I could stop asking constantly. JRF doesn't use their PF section though, and Art Rock doesn't even exist as genre here anymore.

listening to Need For That (1992) right now - good stuff
my evaluation behaviour has always been something more generous/inclusive, but I hear a lot of indie/alternative background here too - I'm torn currently, we will take our time though as always ... Smile

Need for Not.  Smile
Did you find the entire album?  On Spotify, perhaps?  It's not available in the U.S. on Spotify.
Anyway, I can understand your concern.  One of the reasons I hadn't recommended it until now.  But I do think it's worthy of inclusion.  Anyway...

Seconded, for me not enough progressive for releases in 1990s. Unhappy
