He's done a few decent tracks, but the fact that the majority of his work was fuzak will probably outweigh the good stuff.

Despite his popularity, I think he belongs. He was definitely "fusing" elements of several genres--as if 'trane and Masakela and Hancock and Jeff Beck weren't doing the same. 

But, then, if he gets in then its open the floodgates for the Earl Klughs, Bob James, and Freddie Hubbards. 

On second thought, send him over to JazzArchives.
