The band had used the “Set” suffix, while they’d been part of London Swings: Live at the Marquee Club (with Jimmy James & the Vagabonds - an album was released in 1966) It was dropped prior to their 1967 'Outward Bown' album, for which they had been joined by lead vocalist Jess Roden – whose vocal talents and outstanding expressivity would later turn him into a cult figure among Rock aficionados - and flexible guitarist Tony Catchpole who, unlike Roden who’d soon abandon due to the band’s lack of success, would become a key pillar of the band’s sound up until their final implosion in 1972.

Another soon-to-be-famous vocalist joined for The Alan Bown's next (self titled) album in 1968 in the form of Robert Palmer, who was again replaced just one album later by Gordon Neville for the 1970 'Listen' and 1971 'Stretching Out' releases.

The band achieved limited chart success and is best known for the role it played in developing the careers of numerous musicians including Mel Collins, John Helliwell, and Dougie Thomson, as well as Robert Palmer & Jess Roden.

Can't really see them getting added here though due to the lack of 'legacy quotient' for the band itself.

Alan Bown or Alan Bowm Set, i dont know the difference , but the music strikew me as a good band to be elecyed into protpo prog, i was thinking jazz fusion also, but that is to stretch it a little.

Early use of mellotron and early use of brass trio to psycjh rock, nice cross of pop, blues, psych, jazz and warly art rock senseability
