Hello,I've just finished reading a very good book on Amon Duul 2.His author,Tobias Petersson, wrote 7 years ago a book titled Encyclopedia of swedish  progressive music(good read too). The book is not a biography,it focuses on AD2's first four years, the split with Amon Duul and the political context. It's well written, with photographs, posters and ads. Moreover it's a pocket book so very convenient for reading in the subway. It's available through Record Heaven at the cost of 17 euros. There's also Can Pop Musik by Eric Deshayes for french readers. He also wrote L'underground musical en France(with Dominique Grimaud)et Au delà du rock(on the german rock scene).Big smile

^ Does the author explain why he chose to focus on the first four years, as well as the size of the content?

Yes,he actually managed to interview AD2's key members. They were helpful but said no to a biography. That's why Tobias Petersson chose to focus on the first four years.By the way the size of the book must have been up to Tamara Press.Anyway it's a very good book.

Hi,

Any information where to get this?

I'm not surprised that the group is not letting out information or notes that would warrant a book. There is a lot of anger about their past and the web site still shows distaste for a variety of things, including "Utopia" and "Nada Moonshine #".

In the end, this type of anger hurts the artistry around it, as both albums are actually very good, and at least one cut from the first one was redone later (What You Gonna Do). The later album is actually very good, although in my review I mentioned that it was sad that a band that specialized in improvisation was now so tied to a song format,  Funny thing was that right after that, there were a couple of live things played out and they were extended jams, including one that had Renate going bananas, instead of John, who had been the one that called the earlier album "b*****d".

Anger, is no different than a dis-ease. It eats away at your body! And for me, this band has been so important in its formative years as to help me get defined inside, that I can not help say something about it. It's like a child of yours, you might not agree but you have to love that child forever, regardless. Who knows I might even be wrong, but in the end, it is not about right or wrong. It is about living, loving, caring, sharing, and learning.

But it would be nice to see some of that earlier stuff getting a better treatment, and even being re-mastered, But I don't think it's gonna happen if the band is not taking care of being more up front with its friends, relations, lovers, and what not. Somewhere along the way, you have to wake up, as much as we do, and you either take care of your work, or it's just another piss in the wind!

By the way I have just received the Shindig!guide to spacerock.I started to read it 4 hours ago and it's very interesting. It goes from DR Who to Sula Bassana through Hawkwind,Kosmische Musik and modern bands such as Carlton Melton. It also quotes obscure groups such as Ra Can Row.Recommended reading!

German journalist Ingeborg Schober, who was befriended with the group (her boyfriend Rüdiger Nüchtern shot a short movie titled "Amon Düül plays Phallus Dei"), did a book about them about 30 years ago. the title of the book was "Tanz der Lemminge". some of the scenes she describes in that book would be great stuff for a movie, like for example Amon Düül 2 crashing into a buffet for businessmen at their hotel who then hunt them through the streets of Frankfurt in their cars and try to run over them. it would be interesting to compare these books

I don't believe the book was ever translated into English. I only know of it because it was part of Friede's library

DOUBLE SCREAMMMMMMMMMM !!!!!!!

STAGE SCREAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually starting to get tired with the smugness and the attitudes towards these things. AD2, obviously doesn't care, and none of this will ever make the light of day for the other folks that appreciate the work of people that meant well and still speak well and care.

Yes, it was a different time, and you were born with a peg leg! So you still feeling sorry for yourself?
