Trust me, I am very familiar with self-deprecating humour, I use it all the time, but I still don't get it. If you mean "I am the kind of horror movie that delivers (...)" with "..." being either "terror" or "horror" the joke is extremely crudely put, which I did not consider possible due to your usually articulate posts. I was after all speaking about two different kinds of horror movies and you did not specify which kind you think you should be likened upon, and a mirror gives only one reflection.

The only other alternative would be that you meant "I am the kind of recipient that prefers horror movies that deal with ...", it makes even less since I did not speak of the recipients at all, just the movies, and you still don't state which kind of horror movie you refer to.

“Explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog. You understand it better but the frog dies in the process.”

Has anyone mentioned "The Fog" of John Carpenter with young J.L. Curtis (it's from 1980, mind you) ?
No monster, no blood, no millions budget, but hugely entertaining and terrifying

I still haven't seen this one, but I should, since it was made just before The Thing: I hope there's the same atmosphere of paranoia, constant suspense and non-stop stress. Tongue

Carpenter, remember ! Tongue

On another completely different genre it reminds me of The Abyss (Ed Harris & that lovely girl Mastrantonio) also with tight budget but nonetheless very well crafted and entertaining

Not quite. There is no explanation of a joke when there is no joke in the first place. That would be like dissecting a frog that was never animate at all.

I loved the action of the original Dawn Of The Dead, but The Shining sh*t me up good! Glad King hates the Movie version!

Not quite. There is no explanation of a joke when there is no joke in the first place. That would be like dissecting a frog that was never animate at all.
Now that the frog has died anyways, you were decribing terror as a jump-in-your-face scare which shocks you and Dean responded with 'I call that a mirror'. Took me too long to get as well but it's a joke alright

What's the difference between a duck?
It neither wears a tie.

That would be so had I only described "terror", and I would not have any problems understanding that. But I also described "horror", and since Dean left it open what he refers to your explanation does not apply. This ambiguity was what my comment was about.

But if you are correct and this really is what Dean meant my reply would be: "Sorry, I don't leave a reflection in a mirror".

Sometimes a mirror just is a mirror.

And since it was Dean that was being self-deprecating, don't let it reflect on you too much.

I was just a bit self-depreciating myself.

I know, I was just punning on "reflect". Your "Sorry, I don't leave a reflection in a mirror" comment was witty.

I actually wasn't sure what Dean meant by mirror until I saw his self-deprecating comment, then I got the joke. Sometimes we overthink things.

For the true face of horror, look in my mirror (lol, just kidding, after all, you said that you don't leave a reflection).
