Which probably means that UK's borders will be closed while ISIS bombs the UK from the inside. Wrong said Fred.

There are probably legal reasons why we can't do that.

Also IS won't be defeated. There power may be reduced by they are an ideology that will not die out.

It is worrying though, as one of the Paris attackers was apparently a Syrian 'refugee' who travelled through Greece back in October. I expect there's more to come.

It'd would mean serious negotiations with the EU, they basically govern us regarding Human Rights and the free movement of people.

Unfortunately despite what self-enlightenment seeking Liberals say Extremists/Terrorists/Islamists are arriving with economic migrants (and the odd genuine family) en masse.

It's not about being enlightened or liberal or anything. Do you really think is possible to "close all borders"? (Well, maybe a tad easier in the UK since it's an island). Do you really think that most of the refugees are terrorists? (Or even many of them)? Don't you think terrorists will already be there and be citizens?

IS stated back in September that they would exploit the refugee stream to get more Jihadists into Europe.

I suspect that not many will come but so far we knowonly of thismone and he was part of the biggest terror attack in Europe since the Madrid bombings, so there clearly is some risk.

Xenophobia isn't the answer.

It is a very difficult proposition, weighing the humane concern for refugees against the need for security. Free movement across borders as advocated by the EU is both a boon for commerce and a bane for maintaining order and self-determination. The issue is particularly stark in France where jihadists (many naturalized or natural-born citizens of the country) trek back and forth from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, train in combat, and arrive in Paris with impunity, ready to spread mayhem.

And there is no Charles Martel to drive back the Moors, because there is no horde at the gate.

It is getting to the point among growing nationalist parties in EU countries that the words of Arnaud Amalric, allegedy stated during the massacre of Albigenses by French nobility at Béziers, may well be spoken again:

"Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius." (Kill them all, let God sort them out.)

Incidentally, aren't ISIS simply mercenaries working for the US? If they're so Islamist, why haven't they ever attacked Israel?

I definitely have no inclination to sign anything like that. Immigrants are fleeing the same people perpetrating terrorist acts like that. It's far too xenophobic for my liking, especially with language like "Islamist attacks". This sort of thinking worries me, it will only lead to Muslim people becoming more isolated, and when they are faced with persecution for simply being who they are it will only serve to fuel their radicalization. Moreover, ISIS isn't the kind of entity you can just defeat.

They're not mercenaries working for the US, but they are largelty funded by private Saudi interests, and Saudi isof course one of our best freinds in the region. I mean, f**k knows why because they're a repulsive regime, but I guess it's about oil, arms sales and also the fact that Saudi are enemies of all of Russias allies in the region.

I think:

0.1% are Terrorists
90% are economic migrants
5% are genuine families
4.9% are genuine males

I'm not sure if there are any single females. Every time I've seen news footage it has come across as refugees mainly consisting of 18-30yo men.

My biggest fear are many Muslims arriving are Islamists who might radicalise those they travel with or meet when settled.

Islamism/Extremism can lead to terrorism. That said even moderate Muslims can be radicalised overnight, hence why it's imperative Euro nations close their borders.

When a doctor finds a tumor, the need to perform surgery becomes necessary. ISIS/Daesh needs to be surgically removed permanently. No more pussyfooting, the combined European armies alone can do the surgery. This cancer has been going on since 1096,(Godefroy de Bouillon), unrelenting up until the siege of Vienna in 1683. The ghost is back in full force , attempting to invade Europe once again by infiltrating thousands within the half-million 'migrants' (mostly single men between 20-30 years of age BTW) . Trojan horse revisited ? According to FSB and Western intelligence sources, there are around 500 infiltrators in Western Europe. Look what 8 terrorists did in Paris ?

Well, let's see....given that most Islamic regimes by there very nature are oppressive and barbaric (and Shi'ite Iran, although opposed to the Sunni Isis, still puts hits out on cartoonists and Salman Rushdie, and stones adulterers), I would say that Ockham's razor cuts things down to the simplest terms: Isis is a radicalized form of Islam that is accepted by many adherents to Islam (whether openly or with tacit nods and money under the table).

They pick the most violent aspects of the Koran and have proclaimed Jihad against apostates (they are as ruthless against Shi'ites as they are against Yazidis or Christians). The Koran speaks of world domination by Islam (the word "jihad" appears over 40 times in the Koran), they take their scripture literally.

Sadly the free movement of people is making invasion simple for ISIS. Most cultures are compatible and closing borders comes at a compromise but Islam is struggling to integrate.

cancelling free movement is deeply regressive (we already had that in Germany concerning GDR) and mixing up IS and Islam doesn't make it easier ...

TBH Islam is struggling to integrate with European cultures in general, to stop just Islamic immigration is very controversial. The UK has seen many migrants recently from the Eastern Bloc but they certainly aren't dominating the headlines for terrorism, female genital mutilation or child grooming offences. Some Brits fear the Polish may take our jobs but they certainly don't fear them.

While I certainly understand the want and need for stricter controls and monitoring of borders/entry...why stop immigration itself? Why "close" the borders?
Seems perhaps an A: over reaction based off knee jerk or B: a belief that maybe was already wanted and now given "justification"?

We in the Western World are proud of our civilization, our way of life, so it's when times are toughest we need to uphold them. So we can't proceed with anger, and we can't just give up what it is that makes the "civilization" that so many are saying is now being warred with.

From a Canadian perspective, our government want bring 25,000 refugees per year... They will pay food, loan a shelter, give them money etc...

Over terrorism issues, this will cost us a ton of money, most don't speak our languages, their conception of the world is diametrically different (religion doesn't really exist where I live... And I like it that way!) and common feeling is that it's gonna end up in ghettoisation.

I'd like to help, but not necessarily welcome them, terrorism is just one aspect... It's highly unfair for poor people who pay taxes since they are born and homeless people who will spent night outside at -35 Celsius  during the winter.

Obviously an exaggeration to bring light to the point, but as a fan of history (and I've seen many agree/echo similar sentiments) there is an oddly 1920/s30s feel not just in Europe but all over the world, certainly here in the US.

Hope we choose to act together and not resort to isolationism and forever cyclical warfare (never the intent of course)

It's not significant at all.

If you surveyed everyone in the UK and asked them do they want to bring back hanging, millions would say 'Yes' but no government would ever re-instate it. It's not about what the people want. it's about what the establishment feels it needs to do, and the policy of "encouraged" multiculturalism is a cross party initiative. Those who oppose it are on the lunatic fringe of the parties.

You know what, a large number of the French police were on the streets of Paris on Friday night risking their lives to try and save people. You might want to think about that before taking cheap shots at them from the safety of your armchair.

And, while I'm here, I want to say that the evident glee with which you are using this tragedy to make political capital with the bodies barely cold yet turns my stomach.

Not all of those refugees will be from Syria and not all of those will be muslim. Even if we assume that most of them will be, then that amounts to less than 0.7% of the 2.79 million muslims who live in the UKLet us remember that not all muslims are islamists, not all islamists are extremists, not all extremists are terrorists.

Whether the total muslim demographic is 2,786,635 or 2,806,635 actually makes very little difference to the people who advocate closing the borders. Last week the people who would have signed the petition to close the UK borders would have been right-wing, anti-muslim extremists, today the signatories are "moderates" who have been "radicalised" by the fear that an obscene act of terrorism could occur here. While I will happily wave the tricolour in support of the peoples of France shaken by an obscene act of terrorism, I will also stand along-side the muslims of this and every other country who are as horrified and appalled by this atrocity as the non-muslim of the world is. What I can never do is sign this reactionary xenophobic petition.

Hate speech is speech that offends, threatens, or insults groups, based on race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or other traits.

So if I criticised your favourite band and you were offended would you count that as 'hate speech' because you were offended?

"Stop all immigration and close the UK borders until ISIS is defeated." seriously? Do I have to go into detail how wrong that is? People are running away from them, they have nowhere to go, don't you think they want to return to their homes? Little children, so many innocent people victims of horrific war crimes, what happened to compassion? I have no problem with adding more restrictions to immigration policies but this petition is ridiculous.
Classifying a minority group as a whole is wrong, has history not told us anything?
These immigrants are not here for economic gain either, they have nowhere to go, they lost everything and seen things I wouldn't wish on anyone.
Please think of those who have are in dire need of a kind hand right now?

It is way more complex indeed, Lazland, I understand that and I am not placing the blame on anyone, political practices and influences are both internal and external.
My comment, here above, is more related to my previous posts, in the sense that many people are innocent victims, nothing to do with terrorists, they are suffering and really have nowhere to go.

This petition would not seem to be so blatantly xenophobic if it was not contrasted with the fact that three of Paris terrorists were French nationals that blended in with Syrian refuges residing in Paris.

Please note that they were not actually Syrian refugees.

If there is one despicable term it is "economic migrants" (the German term for it, "Wirtschaftsflüchtlinge" meaning "economic refugees", is even mode despicable). It is an absolutely cynical term. First the African countries are exploited to a state of absolute poverty by the Western economy, and when people rightfully try to escape that situation we refuse to give them shelter on the grounds that they are "mere economic migrants".

I'd like to see any well-fed citizen of the "Western civilization" in the situation these "economic migrants" are in. I am certain they would try to escape in no time.

And the "Schlepperbanden" (a German word for "gangs smuggling illegal immigrants") feast on this wish to escape the poverty like hyenas on a corpse.

Hi and Thanks for your reasonable post. I want to talking Honest . I am from Iran and I'm borned as a Muslim and Shia. Note to this : I was born as a Muslim and I don't choose Islam. There are too many people in Iran (I just talk about my country but I'm sure this is same in other Islamic countries) that was Born as a muslim. Believe me we don't know about Islam completely. I didn't see any (even 1 person) terrorist in my family or friends or friends of friends ... in Iran. Let me explain more. I never saw even 1 person in Iranian people (Muslim or not) that like or just agree to killing people or terror or each words in these means.
I know , you may faced to a few Iranian in some sites that show themselves as west enemies ... Perhaps they are not Iranian . Maybe they are radical and fundamentalists but I'm sure they just talk (bla bla bla). You can't find even 1 Iranian suicide bomber. Most of them from other countries. And one Important thing : you can find in any country and nations some crazy or different or wild persons . Many european guys are in terrorists bands in Iraq or Syria.
This wild attack in Paris upset me so much. I follow news of this terror . R.I.P . We MUST destroy all of terrorists around the world.
