Just our of curiosity... I am a 3 star member with 123 posts. I've seen other 3 star members with 12,000 posts. I think you hit 4 stars at 20,000. Does that mean 5 stars is 100,000? Confused

Post count/ point count does not give one 4 or 5 stars. One could have one million posts and still be a three star member or one post and have four or five stars in the forum. If one takes on Prog Reviewer or Collaborator status then one has four stars, and if one becomes a Special Collaborator and/ or Admin then one has five stars.

but the most important thing to know about it: when you reach the 4th echelon you have to stop socializing with everyone below your rank because this is not seen as honorable by the upper prog class.

Vive la grande bourgeoisie!

Funny! I've never even noticed the stars beneath people's monikers! Is there really a PA aristocracy?

I've never paid attention to those stars or bothered to ask what they mean.

Yeah, they probably are very nice people but we'll never know for sure, I guess, since they rarely get out of their golden circle to exchange with others.

Good observation. They rarely get out of their golden circle, but they often hang around outside their Cosy Zone.

I'm just wondering how many hundreds of prog reviews you need to write to reach the four-star status of Prog Reviewer, or is it more to do with quality over quantity?

You deserve to be a full five-star member for your humorous, endlessly entertaining and informative album reviews, which I always enjoy reading, including your latest excellent review for Patrick Moraz' "The Story of I". Keep up the good work. Thumbs Up

Hi,

I kept thinking that the only 5 STAR thing I would want to visit and know ... is one of those fancy places with  some amazing food and all the attention you can possibly get when you stay in those places ... somehow, at least you know that they MEAN IT!

I had, for a long time, a higher expectation for the folks that are "ADMIN's" and have those 5 STAR rankings ... and specially in knowing how they could/should/would show themselves as an important part of PA and standing for its hopes and values about the music ... but seeing one of these point fingers and accuse people of anything, instead of politely disagreeing and perhaps extend the courtesy to explain their thoughts ... is disheartening for me ...

I'm not exactly uneducated, for example, but one of the most important things for me, for many years has been to NEVER/EVER consider someone's education an important value in the arts ... and this would include becoming a part of a group of folks that spend their time telling others that they know how things are everywhere ... which is sad ...

I often use the example of the painting GUERNICA (by Picasso) as a young man looking out the streets of Madrid during the Spanish Civil War, and I got to see almost the same thing in Portugal during its 1950's government (until it finally fell) and then the hordes and all the animals hit the street ... and did the same thing for every reason you could think of, from Christian Puddings, to Socialist Eclairs!

I would not want to see anything like it, however, I am sensitive to ADVERTISING and PUBLICITY ... guess what was used the most in those days ... and is used now ... to guide misinformation all around ... so you and I can not know or find out what is going on!

We're all bozos on this bus, and we all see just about the same things ... except that some don't think it was important, because it didn't happen in America ... well, let me tell you  ... I was in Chicago in 1968 and 1969, and working in the Rathskeller in Madison when Kent State happened ... you know what? It wasn't too different, and I shed a lot of tears ... I knew that a lot of music and arts would be destroyed because of it, and considered "bad" for you ... and the media still plays that game about that time ... people too screwed up and stoned, and all that ... never once considering that there were just as many folks that were not stoned ... heck, I never had a joint in my hands or smoked one until California, and that would have been the fall of 1971!

I want us all to be excited about helping all that music, and much more from around the world ... to appear, and be seen and appreciated, and PA has done that ... and for that I am happy and thankful, even if some "Admin's" think I'm against them ... which I am not!

PEACE

It looks like you have to be an official collaborator, admin, or prog reviewer to get 4 or 5 stars.....ask the collabs how to get the title of Prog Reviewer.

Usually a member is discussed among Collabs, a consensus is reached, and the member is asked to be a Reviewer.   Spec Collabs are farther & fewer between and require a good amount of contribution and proof of knowledge/listening experience.

Not to worry, I'll still carry on writing my entertaining parodies of real album reviews, although I'll be taking a break for a short while now while I listen to all of Camel's albums and give them a rating only. Amazingly, there are still three of Camel's latest albums I've yet to hear. I've been given a nod and a wink that some of Camel's later albums are rather good too, so I'm looking forward to hearing them for the first time. By the way, I don't know if you're a fan of Rush, but my review today was written with Rush fans in mind, even though it was actually a review for a Budgie album.  Smile

It's a bit like becoming a “made man” in the mafia, only rather more difficult.

ability to travel in time for a start... back  to when this site actually cared about finding those with the passion, knowledge, work ethic, thick skin, and cold blooded badassery to stick a knife in someone with a smile...

umm hmm..those were prerequisites to being offered such exhausted positions back then...

This is just my experience, so not sure how it works in all cases.

In my case I kind of asked around and there was an opening in prog folk which is where I am probably most comfortable.  The teams discuss and decide whom they want to ask or add to their team.

Over time I have realized that the site is kind of split between the forums and the "content".  That is, there are the forums and people who are super active on those, and then there is the content where artists are vetted and added, and albums are reviewed.  I like being a collaborator rather than a reviewer because I can still review albums but I can also work on artist additions, bio updates, and other things qwhen I don't feel like reviewing or have a case of writer's block
