21 years ago, progressive metal saw its first three major releases. http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=12930 - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son in April, http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=3564 - Operation: Mindcrime in May, and http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=19920 - ...And Justice for All on August 25 (that's today).
I chose another 21 discs to build a list for people trying to get into metal. I think it's the most melodic compilation of metal on PA. I have filtered out the boring albums such as the Human Equation. I hope readers will read my list and say, "finally, a proghead who knows what good metal sounds like."
These are not neccessarily progressive metal. What they are, is metal albums with prominent prog elements.
