21 years ago, progressive metal saw its first three major releases. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son in April, Operation: Mindcrime in May, and ...And Justice for All on August 25 (that's today). I chose another 21 discs to build a list for people trying to get into metal. I think it's the most melodic compilation of metal on PA. I have filtered out the boring albums such as the Human Equation. I hope readers will read my list and say, "finally, a proghead who knows what good metal sounds like." These are not neccessarily progressive metal. What they are, is metal albums with prominent prog elements. Agalloch - The Mantle Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors Ayreon - Into the Electric Castle: A Space Opera (Disc Two) Cynic - Focus (2004 Reissue. Bonus tracks with the beautiful female vocalist/keyboardist Aruna Abrams) Devin Townsend - Terria Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor Dream Theater - Score: 20th Anniversary World Tour (Disc One) Edge of Sanity - Crimson Kamelot - The Black Halo Maudlin of the Well - Leaving Your Body Map Moonsorrow - Verisäkeet Opeth - Blackwater Park Opeth - Still Life Orphaned Land - Mabool: The Story of the Three Sons of Seven Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element I Rainbow - Rising Riverside - Out of Myself Tiamat - Wildhoney Tool - Ænima Tool - Lateralus |
