Inspired by a comment from another user in the Yes Rate the Album 1-10: Yes "Tales" thread, here we are!

SO...

On a scale of 1-10, what do you rate King Crimson's Larks' Tongues in Aspic?

As always, no half or quarter points; whole points only!

GO!

I don't understand the appeal of this album... 3/10.

That's actually a good first stance to see in this thread, something different for a change! I'll let this one marinade a bit longer.

I like it generally, very creative and crazy but I don't think the album flows as well as some other crimson albums. I kinda like crimson better when the songs have more structure on albums like Court and Red. Decent 7 or a light 4 stars.

Not exactly the album that gives me goosebumps, but it has some good moments. Don't know exactly what I should think about part 1: it seems rather pointless, but it has some mysterious growing potential. 7/10 does this album most justice, I think.

That nails it. The production is also a problem with too much contrast between the calm and the loudest parts.
It has some truly dizzying quality peaks though. Surely a special album. 7-8/10

8/10 for me, primarily on the merits of the title track (part 1 and 2).

I'm glad there's at least one PA member on this thread who agrees with me. Smile I gave the album 4 out of 10, but even that was a stretch. For me, it's definitely an album for the bargain bin, or just the bin. Smile

I noticed someone gave the album just 1 point - which seems a bit harsh - but it looks like they want to remain anonymous. Smile

No....you are being generous when you give  give 4 and 5 stars to all those old proto prog things which really deserve 3 usually.
